While I know what the local tournaments would permit, I was wondering what sort of standards people have run into at larger events in terms of wysiwyg and converted models.

So, the particular example I'm thinking of is this. I've got an army of 99% DE, with a handful of Eldar models that were thrown in with the army when I bought it, including a Crimson Hunter. I'm not super interested in keeping it as a Crimson Hunter, since I have more than enough vehicle killing guns on other units, and I'd rather have a more anti-personnel jet, so I'm gonna convert it into a Razorwing Jetfighter. I figure since the have more or less the same basic structure, just differing in some aesthetic details and loadout, it should be a fairly straight forward conversion. As a base line, I'm planning to remove the current tail and wing fins, and replace them with styrene and milliput fins in the sharper, scythelike style on the Razorwing, convert a splinter cannon to replace the pulse laser, replace the starcannons with disintegrator cannons, construct some missiles to go on the bottom, maybe cut some notches into the rear of the wings like on the actual model.

What I don't particularly want to waste hours of my life doing is trying to mess around sculpting milliput and green stuff into the slightly different forked nose of the Razorwing.

Now, I know in my local meta, this would be totally fine, the fact that the CH and RW have extremely similar builds to begin with, combined with a few bitz to "dark eldar" it up, the right warhead, and a good DE paint job would be more than enough to have it readily accepted as wysiwyg. But I'm wondering what I should expect if I were ever to bring it to a convention or the like, would it be unplayable because it didn't look 100% like a true Razorwing?

In larger tourneys you might be faced with wysiwyg up to grenades.

Depends alot on where you are. Here it would usually be fine.

Yeah, honestly, the more a look through the forums and look at other conversions people have done, the more I think I may not even bother altering much of anything on the model other than kitbashing in the right wargear. Seems like there's a fair number of people taking Razorwings and putting pulse lasers and star cannons on them, painting them red and calling them Crimson Hunters (probably because of the $20 price difference in what is essentially the same model), so I imagine most people would just as easily read a Crimson Hunter with Dark Lances, Disintegrator Cannon, and Missiles and a DE paint job as a Razorwing, and as far as tournament standards it seems like there's not a lot of in between on the views of either "if it reads right and has the right weapons, it's cool" and "if it's not pretty much the model exactly the way it looks in the codex, it's a no go"

Basically if its the Right size, looks like the model and the correct Wargear you should be fine.

A lot of the "little things" like Toxin sacs termagants, if you have 2 units with and 2 units without, then you will be ask to have them Marked to see the difference on gants.

But if you say "all" gants have toxin sacs idk if anyone would care if you glued/painted that 1mm sac on the arms.

Edit: I dont have my Grenades on my Harlequins and no one even knew that they came with them as a model peace, they can even be seen on 1/2 the models anyways b.c they are under the trench coat....... also the are 1mm x 1mm big.

To this day, I have never met anyone who, at a glance, knew if my Dreadknights were modeled with Incinerators, Psycannons or Psilencers. I've freely used all three in various combinations on the same, unmagnatized models (though I do say what they have in my lists and stick to it).

In tournaments. So I think you're fine.

Yeah as a Quin player, an Embrace vs Kiss vs Caress, its funny b.c i can tell them 100x and no one knows the difference (some know the Kiss time to time).

I painted the Bases different colors so they know XD

You are referring to upgrade grenades like melta bombs? Sure.

Some places eating with your mouth open is consider good, same as for slurping and many other little things we English people see as rude.

its the same for conversions, some areas will be different for them, read the rules/take pictures and ask the TO's for the tournament your going too is always the safest bet.

Remember this is also a hobby and you'll see it time to time that everything is converted to fit the hobbyist dream vision, if quality is high enough almost no one will care.

My experience has been the most TOs are very lenient in this regard.

If there's ANY doubt in your mind, or conversions in your army, snap a pic and send it to the TO beforehand. I've only ever have one TO tell me that something wouldn't be allowed, but asking ahead of time saved me a three hour drive to an event I wouldn't have been able to play in.
