Subject: Ideas on how to make a spinal cord?

Hi everyone,
Working on adding details to Da Pain Train (which is our Eldar-looted Diesel Locomotive).
Have an idea involving Eldar heads - which I was thinking would look more fun if they had some spinal cords attached.
I made a first attempt at making some out of epoxy putty - but those got too fragile after I rolled the putty around and tried to make what I thought might look like Eldar backbone shapes.
Any ideas on a better method?
I'm wondering if I should carefully carve something and then try to cast some.
Thanks

Plasticard trimmed to shape carefully, bulked out with layers of plasticard and GS to blend.
Better structure, can glue directly to models with plastic glue, and easier to work with. Shape, glue on, wait to set, sculpt.

I don't know if it would be the right size, but the dark eldar heamunculus has a separate spinal cord that you could use, if you can get the bits. I think it's a part of one of the legs

Spinal CORD doesn't have vertebrae on it. It's the nerve fibre bundle. Greenstuff or for a mechanical analogue, guitar strings (or GS and a "cable making tool").
A SPINE can include the bony bits, though. Wire core and beads works for this.
I think you're more after the latter than the former.

Sorry man i'm not in the know on Eldar - Are these spinal cords suppose to be attached to an actual troops head, or is the idea to be mechanical in nature?
I only ask because I recently played around with creating some chain links and realized they kind of looked like a necron spine. with a little bit of shaping, you could probably achieve a bone / mechanical look to add to your locomotive.

assuming you do want a spine, I don't know if it'd fit, but what about just stealing one from a skeleton or three?

Hi everyone,
Really appreciate all of the thoughts and clarifications. (Good point - trying to make a vertebrae assembly - not a spinal cord).
The mouse idea is great - and wouldn't you know it - you can buy one (in lucite) on eBay. I'll have to keep my eyes open for a little dead one.
I'm going to give the wire / paperclip idea a shot. I think I can manage that - and that does a slick job of solving my "fragile spine" issue. Will follow up with how it goes.

The Khorne bloodstoker model includes an entire intact backbone/spinal cord. He uses it as a hair scrunchie so you could snag the part from people who just want bald bloodstokers.
