I am a noob so any help would be appreciate.

I recently purchased the 40k Citadel starter kit with the basic paints, clippers and paint brush and also the Space Wolves paint kit with the 6 little paints.

My question is, how do I know which paint is what? I really need some help.

Thanks

There should be a paint list, so you just have to look at the color and match it. This way if you need to buy more, you know the name of it.

if there is not a paint list, you can probably search online and someone probably researched it. Otherwise, just paint away with what looks good.

Citadel paints usually say what they are under the color name

Base/layer/wash/gaze/technical.

Generally bases cover the first coat better than layers usually why its the darker version of most paints

Layers are basic paint you usually "layer: on top of the base coat

Washes are transparent ink like "paint" used to shade models as its lack of surface tension makes it pool in the reseses.

Glazes are like washes but is used to tint the paint underneath

technical you shouldn't worry about it too much.

Also obligatory thin your paints advice here.

Your local GW employees will know what paint is what.

Failing that (ie no GW local to you), then the starter set will have the names of the paint underneath each one as you pull it out of its holder.

For Space Wolf set:

Darkest Blue: The Fang
Middle Blue: Russ Grey
Lightest Blue: Fenresian Grey
Black wash (runnier than others) : Nuln Oil
Silver: Runefang Steel
Brown: Verminlord Hide

Oh as I say underneath each one - I mean engraved into the plastic case it was in. I'm not sure if it will say it directly under the pot.
