After doing Khayoss for the Fate of Konor campaign (we wuz robbed, grumble, moan), I'm thinking about starting a Mordian Iron Guard force, and I'm wondering how I would go about getting started? Beyond using Commissars as regular officers, and buying lots of the metal troopers still on the site, how would you go about constructing a small force that was properly representative of the Iron Guard?
If you don't mind bitzhunting and missing those frilly shoulder thingies, you can probably kitbash a pretty good lookalike from the IG vehicle sprue's tank commander head, his chest (which does not have the breastplate Cadians usually wear) and a pair of cadian legs and cadian arms. Hunting down all those parts though might be a bigger issue.
Unit-wise though, Mordians are known for fighting in claustophobic conditions, forming up disciplined gunlines, and having iron-willed troopers. Organization-wise, they still have the standard Tank Regiments, Artillery Regiments and infantry regiments as any other Guard, but if you want one that is specifically them then fielding Infantry squads (or veteran squads) backed by transports and light tanks. I'd imagine Hellhounds and it's variants would have served Mordians well, as they can clear entire buildings and in cityfight scenarios their short ranges are a non-issue.
EDIT: due to them preferring claustrophobic environments and generally enclosed ones, I'd imagine their air support is rare to nonexistent, so Valkyries and Vendettas would be rare among them.

I read the Mordian fluff when they first got released a very long time ago and from what I remember they were represented as a gun line army with impeccable laser drill, so infantry platoons and lascannon heavy weapon teams. Their planet doesn't rotate on it's own axis and they live on the night side, so scout sentinels modelled with searchlights would be a cool patrol include.
With the lack of templates now, you could also even run them fluffy by using them in tight ordered formations. Mordians - despite looking a little odd on the battlefield did have some of the best fluff in the older Guard codices.
I play Mordian Iron Guard and from the Fluff they fight/live in hive cities that are very crowded, with, multi level, massive spires.
The mordians serve as the police on the planet and the army that gets sent off as tithe to the emperor.
The live in eternal night, so pale skin.
I imagine them fighting against cultist uprising in the hive cities, so imagine a city block as the fight.
If they cannot contain the uprising to the block, then they just shell the whole area.
weapons
Short ranged weapons
flamers, melta, plasma
and as a last resort indirect fire weapons because of all the buildings (basilisk, mortars)
vehicles
chimera, hellhounds, leman russ with punisher cannon, sentinels
no flyers (too many buildings, not a enough fuel)
thats my 2 cents
some more info

On the subject, I'm inspired to convert up some Mordian Scions, like their version of Kasrkins. What would they look like? Heavy armored or would they just have more chest bling and fancier suits?
