I have searched the forum and the internet for something along these lines but I can't quite get the information I am looking for.

I've been collecting Citadel models for quite some time, reading fluff and rules, but never really playing any games. I decided to give 8e a real go, and start a Deatwatch army.

Making sense of what I can, I am making a list of stuff to buy. I noticed that the GW online store is only showing certain sprues for DW but not others that are referenced in the Index. For instance, there are no Vanguard Veterans for sale anymore or Terminators.

Anyone have a guess as to.. .why? I also saw a pretty cool DW Libarian clam pack at my LFGS, but the one on the GW store is missing. Should I hold off on buying any of these older sprues, until the new DW codex comes out?

I gather that some people who were playing them in 7e probably have a lot of these models so are able to make use of them as the Index stands now, but for a new player--what in the holy fu..?

The DW Vanguard, Terminators, Bikers, Rhinos and Land Raiders were just the normal Space Marine versions with an added DW upgrade sprue.

GW stopped selling the DW versions because they cost the same as the Space Marine versions (and in the case of the Land Raider, came with all of the variant's weapons, which was never available in a single set before), but came with a free DW sprue.

Since GW actually sells the sprue separately, this became quite a problem in short order, which is why they ended up "discontinuing" them.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

This makes sense. I actually considered this too. But you can understand my confusion that they wouldn't still list the items on the GW online store, right? They list Primaris marines, when it seems uncertain if they are supposed to be just an attachment or an actual conversion.

And then my question really just ends with the Librarian model. Does GW sometimes just discontinue models? Because judging from how much money I spent on Arbites, I need to go back to the store and grab that Librarian STAT, haha.

Pretty much. Although the Librarian is still available; he's just one of the two plastic SM librarians (either the Blood Angels or the generic one) with a DW upgrade sprue. You just need to spend a little extra now.

Also GW's brick and mortar stores would often have stocks of long-discontinued items until they sell out. The only difference is if it's still available online, then GW is still producing them. If it's not, then whatever you see on the shelves is what you get (this is because they don't actually want to destroy old stock, so they're more than happy to let it sit on the shelves until someone buys it. I can still find battleforces from almost a decade ago in some GW stores).

Finally this makes sense! Do you think there will be a push to replace Vanguards and Termies and the like with Primaris models now?

That is a question most people do not want to be answered.

For the foreseeable future, for vanilla Space Marines at least, they're not going anywhere.
