Hi all,

I've recently purchased 30 Armageddon Steel Legion infantry, and they come with slota bases. Now, I remember metal minis with slota bases being an arse to sit, so how do you guys do it?

Do I still and pin them to regular bases, use the slota and green stuff to hide the hole or some other method?

Bend the tab slightly so it touches both sides of the slotta.
Superglue it in
Fill with a little GS, smooth over the top (unless I’m basing with a thick paste technique)

A number of routes you can go.

1) Do as above - use actual slotta-bases and fill them/cover them, just make sure you apply super glue to the tab and any feet which sit on the base. If filled with filler or green-stuff, etc. this can become pretty solid.

2) Clip off the slotta-tab and use a normal base --- sand the feet smooth with a metal file to ensure you have a good contact point (sand the base too if it's a GW base). This will hold fine, short of dropping the models. I've done an entire 150+ model army out of metal using normal plastic bases. No breakages yet - but I'm careful with my minis.

I twist the tab with needle nose pliers so it needs to be squeezed into the slot. Then fill the gap with thick superglue. Hit it with accelerator and quickly wipe any excess away using a paper towel (not your thumb as accelerant makes SG get really hot!).
If you're using resin bases I usually clip the tab off then use a sanding block to flatten the bottoms of the feet so they secure to the base with the superglue. Carving out a reasonably flat area on the base.

I feel your pain with the slotta bases, but only if you are not going to cover the base with textured ground cover. I use a small rock mix, so the uneven base gets covered up nicely.

Trying to fill the gaps is more difficult for me than adding ground cover to the base. Just mix paint with about 50% PVA glue, slather it on and dump the ground cover on. Once dry, you can paint or drybrush the covering, if you want, but I use a mix of grey colors, so no other work is needed. Super quick, easy and looks great.

I'm with you on this, I have a bunch of old metal eldar and some Catachans and I've been cutting the tab off and just going to pin them to the base. I'll fill in the slot with something and the base it. Never was a fan of the slot base myself.

Don't use the slot bases then

Just file down the feet and superglue them to a normal base:
