As one of my first major projects after building a 3d printer i decided to make a bolt pistol. Here's the main file it's based on, the author does great work, the rest are snipped from various other files.

All the pieces are printed, puttied and partially sanded. Next is more sanding then paint time.

Ouch! Im sure its cost would be high due to the time and amount of plastic but good gravy!

I don't know the exchange rate, but that does sound high, though not terribly so. Its probably mostly labor. Printing took about 60 hours, but that's mostly just letting it run and slicing files, the material itself is only about $20. Based on my other couple projects the finishing and painting is the hard part and requires many hours. Right now the internet is flooded with 3d printed things for sale, mostly unpainted or poorly painted. I estimate ill probably put in at least 15 hours on painting, weathering and finishing this piece.
Who knows if I'm happy with the quality I might start selling them.

It was about 8 pieces. but yeah I assumed that it was just labour intensive

It's not necessarily labor in the classic term...it's time on a machine. Every company running machines like that has a cost per hour for that machine to run (and a microscopic amount of materials cost --- unless they're cleaning a product for you). But the larger an item the more hours it takes and you're being charged by the hour.

The laser-cut shops do the same - a building or terrain piece is priced according to how long it takes the laser to cut it, and they need $X out of each machine per hour, etc.

Super-clean work. Cool thing to have for sure. Looks like a woodworker made it.

one thing that strikes me is that whenever some 1 tries to make a 1/1 bolt weapon, they allways undersize the pistol grip...

even tought this one might be too big for an avrage size human hand, it is still way too small for the weapon as a whole.

That's so someone can actually hold it of course. No point in having a cool 3D printed gun if you can't actually hold it...particularly for Cosplay enthusiasts etc. where it's part of a costume.
