Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Not a list I plan to run much but I'm testing my friends tourney list against some hardy lists: First a heavy gunline list then a Horde list, this is the gunline.

Alpha Legion Battalion detachment

HQ

Chaos Lord
- Bolt Pistol
- Chainsword
-74pts

Sorcerer
- Bolt Pistol
- Force Sword
-102pts

Troops

Cultists
-Autoguns
-40pts

Elites

Khorne Berzerkers x10
- Chainaxes + Chainswords
- Powerfist
- Icon of Wrath
-187pts

Heavy Support

Hellforged Rapiers
- Quad Heavy Bolters x3
-246pts

Hellforged Rapiers
- Laser Destroyers x3
-318pts

Super Heavy Detachment

Sokar pattern Stormbird
- Twin Lascannons x4
- Twin Heavy Bolters x3
- Deathstrike Missiles
-952pts

-1999pts 6CP

My tactic here is to sit everything in spawn under the Stormbird's 4++ save and pump out as much shooting as I can, I'll also infiltrate the Zerkers forward to tie some stuff up in cqc. Everything in the firing line has the Nurgle Keyword so that I can cast -1 to hit on whatever needs it.

The I'm unsure about are the Rapiers: are they worth the extra firepower over a couple of dreads which are tougher and have access to the -1 to hit? I'm not a wiz when it comes to gunlines: I haven't run a gunline army in 2 years, I run CQC orientated armies, so any help would be brilliant.

Thanks.

The Sokar isn't exactly efficient - while it's tougher than three squads of Lascannon Havocs and a Void Shield Generator, it's also about 250 points more.

You're right to be concerned about the Rapiers. Not only are dreads tougher, a few of the dreads have the edge on firepower, too! The Chaos Decimator with Soulburner Petards and the Hellforged Leviathan with Graviton Bombards are great shorter-ranged options, while the Hellforged Contemptor with C-beam Cannons and the Hellforged Deredo with Malignatas Sakers outclass the Rapiers at range.

But the solar is almost guaranteed to stay alive at 2+/4++ T9 30W with a -1 to hit it.

What would you suggest for the rapiers then? Switch them out for a leviathan with double butcher array (stronger than the HB but half the shots) and a contemptor with double c-beam (less consistent than the lasers, less shots and lower stat line)?
