Roughly 1000pts here, I'm in a bit of a 'I need to buy everything' phase right now so was told to come here and check what people think! I'm definitely hoping to expand and grab some command points, but I want to get a strong army within that, so any advice on what to buy is really appreciated!

Currently I have:

2 overlords (both warscythes and resurrection orbs)
2 units of Warriors
1 unit of Immortals (not assembled)
1 Doomsday Ark
2 units of Scarabs
1 Destroyer
1 Triarch Stalker (not assembled)
1 Annihilation Barge (Gauss Cannon)
1 unit of Triarch Praetorians (not assembled)

Spoiler:
If you have any advice on the unassembled models regarding weapons, that'd be a massive help. This is my biggest problem - very indecisive!

Thanks

You are off to a good start. Since we don't know what the codex brings us it's difficult to say.

My opinion on what's currently good is Scarabs, Immortals (units of 10 in cover are great), Doomsday Arks (in synergy with a Triarch stalker) and C'tan the Deceiver. You could also invest in Forge World models such as the Tesseract Ark or the holy Gauss Pylon. They are a bit expensive though.

For the wargear i would say:

Immortals:
Both gauss and tesla is good. Preferably you would like to have a 10 man unit of each.

Triarch stalker:
I prefer the range of the Heavy gauss cannon as does most others.

Praetorians:
I would probably go for Particle casters and Void blades. The Void blade gives them three attacks each (according to the FAQ).

Annihilation barge:
You might want to consider replacing the Gauss cannon with the Tesla cannon. It's cheaper and doesn't suffer penalties when shooting.

Cmdr has got you covered, dont invest in more warriors, or if you have your heart set on more buy them after the codex comes out, as they are in a bad place currently.

Immortals are much better, overall tesla is more advantageous, I like to run 2x10 man units, one of each weapon type (keeping the o/lord with the Tesla). Its a relatively cheap and effective infantry combo. I've noticed the ap-2 coming in handy more often than not.

Flesh out your scarabs, seriously. I'm a huge proponent of using them, they are very cheap and effective screens, as most of our main firepower comes from vehicles in this edition. I have 36 bases painted up, although I usually only run 27 (ish).

If you have money to burn, Tesseract Arks are our best vehicle, mobile gun platform with lots of dakka. The sentry pylons are also very good, putting out more damage, but being more fragile and less mobile

The gauss pylon is self explanatory, very powerful.

Our close combat is currently too expensive to rely on fully, it is good, but the points add up quickly. I would go with casters and blades too, the extra attack is nice, I just dont like the D1 that all the weapons put out, really removes their punch as a CC threat.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
In saying all this, if your playing against marines, they benefit from their saves much more than horde armies, so a big squad of tomb blades with scopes will shred them. I enjoy them myself, do lots of work for me in my games.

Firstly for the unassembled, rods for the Praetorians, Tesla for the Immortals and magnetise the guns for the Stalker. Tesla is not so great against Marines but you get more bang for your buck outside of 12 inches and it works brilliantly with your Overlords ability. Outside of Space Marines, Tesla is head and shoulders ahead of Gauss.

Stalker, give it heavy Gauss for some much needed anti-vehicle that the army lacks.

From a purchase perspective, personally I highly suggest the Nightbringer. It's one of the few good Finecast models, looks great and gameplay wise he is and absolute butcher. Screen him with Scarabs and watch him strip off wounds with Antimatter Meteor and Gaze of death before wiping out the big stuff with his Scythe. I can honestly say I think he is undercosted.

Next purchase recommendation is a Cryptek. If I had to pick between 2 overlords or 2 Cryptek I'd be taking the Crypteks. The 5+ invulnerable to shooting for nearby units and improved reanimate on protocols will make it much harder to focus fire down your units.

That does sound pretty good, I'll definitely be investing there! Thank you

The ressurection orb is 35 pts. and it lets you do reanimate rolls only once per battle. You have two, thats 70 pts. A cryptek gives +1 to reanimate rolls, and a 5+ invuln sv. He is only 104 pts. Maybe exchange the two ressurect orb for a cryptek ? Alternatively the ghost ark lets you do reanimate rolls the entire game, as long as its in play. Its more expensive at 170 pts., though. If you have both cryptek and ark you have two reanimate rolls for each model, at 4+. Thats a 75% chance of slain models getting up again.
If you have a overlord you should have a full unit of 10 immortals. Each overlord can buff a unit of immortals with tesla with BS+1. Each 5 and 6 you roll will do 3 hits instead of one, in addition to the regular hits at 2+.
Unit size is important, try to maximize. You need at least 10 models, i would go with a 20 warrior unit. If a unit is wiped out you cannot reanimate models from it. As long as one model is still standing you can do reanimate rolls. Its much harder to wipe out a 20 model unit, than a 10 model unit.
Magnetize models, even the infantry, then you can change weapons as you like.
