Hi all,
I'm building fluffy steel legion army, and armoured sentinels are the only ones steel legion field.
So, what are the better, more effective weapon choices for the platform?

Better post for Tactics.
My go to for sentinels- Im not paying for weapons to hit on 5's after moving. So H Flamers on scouts. And I guess whatever you want for armouored. Assuming you don't want to move them too much.
Flamer sentinels are amazing.

I like las cannons.
Ideally, they want to sit still in cover to maximize both offence and defence. Lascannon gives you range and punch on a model that is tough and doesn't degrade with damage.

I have a plasma cannon on mine but I assembled it last edition and forgot to magnetise it. I mainly use it as a distraction on a flank or to harass stuff and take a bit of focus away from my main force.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Scout sents, hands down, you want the flamer. Armored can go AC, ML, Las and be fine, you'll want to use it as a fire platform. IMO the hydra is so good it's the only AC platform youll ever need, so stick with ML or Las.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Depends on how many you want to field. A single sentinel should go for a lascannon. Everything else makes it irrelevant. Multiple Sentinels, especially in a unit, can benefit from equipping cheaper guns. Because if they get too important you'll find out how squishy they actually are without the opp feeling too bad about himself for diverting AT firepower.
My answer would therefore be: A mixed loadout, beginning with a lascannon.

So, the general consensus is this then:
Constantly moving - Heavy Flamers (but essentially auto pick non scouts, not armoured sentinels)
Gunline - Autocannon/Lascannon (depending on intended targets)
General purpose - Missile Launcher (due to frag/leak missiles)
So that leaves the Multilaser and Plasma Cannon. Now, Multilasers are next to defunct this edition (so far) but what situation would anyone use the Plasma Cannon?

If you want to be snazzy, use some powerlifter sentinels. Auto include for me. Scout 9", move 9". Charge a vehicle or something.

Armoured Sents are OK but don't give you much over HWTs other than the option to take Plasma Cannons.
Personally I'd stick run Scouts because you get a lot more tactical flexibility out of them.

I have both a Las Cannon and a Plasma Cannon AS. I would field the model for which targets to expect to encounter the most of.

Well whatever you do, magnetize the thing. Its an easy one to do, and then you're not stuck with a proxy.

In my (7th ed) experience, heavy flamers are the way to go. I usually keep my sentinels in reserve and then use them to torch whatever flanking units the enemy sends my way. Heavy flamers are cheap and devastating against most units, and at BS3 its not worth paying more for lascannons/plasma. Maybe multilasers or autocannons, but that depends who you usually face.
