With the imminent blissful release of DG goodness hundreds of new DG armies will soon take to the war tables of the 41st millennium. Here's GW's variety:

Spoiler:

This prospect of unique DG war-bands has me giddy with excitement. So, let's play a game: If you were to plan a force, what would it be like?

Let us know:

1) Name of your DG warband/vectorium
2) Color scheme/symbols
3) What makes them special? (Unique characteristic? Personality?)
4) Army composition? (A sea of plague zombies, an armored spearhead, an elite terminator strike force or a mix?)
5) Theater of war. (Where will your plague marines take the blessings of the plaguefather?)

Cheers mates.

1) Still in the works
2) I was thinking about a corroed brown style, like covered in mud. The iconography is in the works.
3) As I have a monastic fetish like my Dark Angels and Guardians of the Covenant can assure, I was thinking in a very big religious tone to this Vectorium. Great use of bells, hoods, parchments, ropes, and censers (Incensorys? Thuribles?)
I'm from Galicia and we have here this thing called the "Botafumeiro" (Basically "Smokethrower" in gallician) in the cathedral of Santiago so... yeah, we are in this kind of thing.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_s2Rf0Z0eE

4) I don't like vehicles very much but the drones bot flyers and the ground ones are pretty cool. But generally I plan to use a great number of Terminators and plague zombies with the guys with the giant bell (I don't remember his name) like a horde of cultists.
5) They won't have one fixed, they will go for the galaxy spreading Nurgles blessing and word, focusing Imperium's srine worlds to destroy the heresy of those weaklings and open their eyes to the truth of the Great Father.

@ Galas. Really neat! I like the monastic idea, they certainly lend themselves to the look.

For me this is what I have so far: (Still very much WIP)

1) Heralds of Pestilence
2) Classic Death guard Green but weathered and heavy rust color on all metallic surfaces. All demons are flesh colored to depics more of a mutated human than a decaying corpse.
3) I wanted these guys obsessed with demons and demonic ascension, hence they are obsessed with emulating demons by acquiring mutations and imprinting on Nurglings. In my mind the pox walkers who become particularly successful progress through the ranks and become hosts to plague-bearers. A real opportunity for growth in the hierarchy, the way I see it.
4) Lots of Demon engines and I'm planning a few converted Predators/defilers to go along that theme. I think I'm gonna play them as a mix of DG and DoN. (Here's hoping for new Nurgle models)
5) I'm envisioning these guys as being instrumental in the fall of Cadia so I'm gonna to decorate them with Cadian trophies.

Cool thread!

1) Haven't decided yet. Any suggestion based on the other stuff below?
2) Similar colour pattern to the Games Workshop one, so dark green, but less bright, less purple, no pastel colours and heavier on the corrosion. I want to give them a truly rotten and dirty look. That said I don't think I'll change them much as they are already awesome models and full of details. I'd like to push on the primordial pagan fertility rite / harvest day look, so stag horns, natural almost celtic and druidic rotten symbols and agriculture iconography. Probably going to use some Putrid Blightkings bits. Think about the Horned God from the comic book Slaine for the iconography:

3) As I said, I want to push on the natural and primordial cult idea, but besides that I haven't decided. If possible I'd like to give the poxwalkers a more primitive look, as if they had been harvested on a primitive planet from a shamanistic tribe and the Death Guard and its sorcerers were seen as gods and shamans.
4) I'm gonna get at least a model of everything but I love infantry and special characters so that's what I'll use primarily. Also, summoned beasts
5) Anywhere but primal planets mostly. I'll give them swampy bases. And add lots of natural elements such as old rotten plants and small animals like bugs, snakes and reptiles.

I'm going to be honest, Death Guard or nurgle has never really interested me.

But with the new releases, which I think with a proper paint job won't look so cartoony. I really want to do a Nautical theme Death Guard army. Sea Green, Cthulu, Kraken etc.

That being said, I have about 10 projects on the go, so who knows. Maybe I won't buy in.

An empty shelf because GeeDerps screwed pretty much my entire army.

Bikes x5
Obliterators x7
Heldrakes x2
Havocs (FW weapons) x10
Terminators (Power Fists. wtf. why the feck can't I take power fists... just beyond stupid...) - nice FW Grave Wardens, cost me ~£50, were a labour of love to paint... now ebay bait.

Really unhappy about the decisions they made here, and if I was cynical I'd think they might have made these based upon hooking people with how good the Traitor Legions Vectorium was... if I was cynical...

My plan is to start with the pre-Heresy scheme of predominately white, but then add sections where the green color of the actual "Plague Marines" looks like it's actually growing into the model and slowly covering up the white. Kind of like they're being infected very slowly by Nurgle's Rot. I'm going to use green-stuff in spots to accentuate the effect as well. Can't wait for Saturday!

Edit: I just googled ablutions and apparently it does not including dropping a duece. I should have looked it up early sorry for any confusion. - Baldsmug

Say what? I've got an existing heavily converted Termi squad too (1 power fist, 1 chainfist) can they really not take either?

Note that, given GW has been telling people not to preview that page of the codex, it's possible this is going to be faq'd shortly. Maybe.

@Bluebeard

I love the idea of the agriculture/tribal theme! Certainly would be neat to see the plagueberarers with tiki masks. For pox walkers, I could see trimming off the modern bits and making them a bit more tribal with tattoos.

1. Tainted Sons
2. Green/Bronze, similar to the GW paint job so purples and pinks too.
3. They are extra stinky. It's going to hurt getting close to them. I'll max out the debuffs and mortal wounds on as many units as possible and pic HQs and elites with high synergy to boost the debuffs/MWs.
4. A little of everything, but heavier than normal on the plague marines.
5. Circling the Maelstrom in a counter-clockwise elliptical orbit getting ever closer to the center. Like they are being flushed into the maelstrom. Oddly specific, right? a lot of my friends play blood angels, ultramarines, dark angels, and tau and I want to visit them all.

Fun thread props to the OP

No name. One part of the army consists of a warband called the Corrupted Crucible though, a group of former Iron Warriors subjugated and tainted by the Black Bull - a former Deathshroud vying for power of his own and being exiled/not reporting back for duty. Also features The Emissary, Lord of the Third Flight (of stairs in Nurgle's obscene mansion...), the leader of the Circle of Seven, a kill team (actually built as such last year) of heroes and enforcers sent by Mortarion to forces the Bull back into compliance. Nurgle's favour for gaining him prestige for corrupting the uncorrupted Iron Warriors the only reason the headsman's axe hasn't fallen yet on the Bull.

Colour scheme will be a dark grey and rusted metal for the former IWs and their WW1 style mortars, Light Tanks that I hope to build from Tauros tracks, bikes and Zeppelins. For the others, I'm torn between streaky, slimy green with some white turning black on the edges or mostly off white going from warm brown to mostly ochre with just a bit of white on the edges and green trimmings a la pre-Heresy DG (the Circle will be like this in any case, as they're all veterans of the Great Crusade). My two painted Pox Walkers are pretty colourful and bright with yellow pus skin areas, but I'm not sure if I should use them as a contast for grittier, desaturated Marines or make the Marines as bright and with as much "pop" to make a very cohesive looking force.

I guess what makes them unique composition-wise I mostly said. One part will be industrialised death dealers, with trench gear, dudes dangling from hot air ballons, an Arachnarok Spider turned Zeppelin, bikes and maybe some "breachers". The Plaguecrawlers are a gift from Nurgle with their mortars and WW1 look! The other will be more traditional Death Guard infantry (but with Deavastators lugging Fallout Fatboy rocket launchers and some las cannons) and with tanks topped by Skaven censers and bells and a Land Raider with "shrine" shoulders from Ghurk. The members of the Circle are/were supposed to be unit leaders or Exalted Champions when I built them, but I'll have to see because of paint scheme and such.

Theatre of war is the agrar world of Palladion, which was recently lifted into a more industrial society by the Imperiums benevolent rule. Then the shadow of Nurgle's bounty fell over it. Maybe cults had accidentaly drawn the eyes of the Plague God in an effort to bring up falling harvest numbers, maybe a few jealous petty lords sent for outside help to topple The Knight, the examplary fighter and Lord Governor of the world. Maybe returning regiments of the Imperial Guard raised on Paladion brought taint with them. In any case the Black Bull and his newly gathered warband of traitors to their legion led a coalition of smaller, lesser known bands of Nurgle Renegades and a small contingent of Death Guard as well as hordes of daemons Nurgle bestowed upon his forces as a boon against the world, with millions of inhabitants turning into Walkers and scores of PDF amd even Guard batallions changing coats. The vast fields turned into levelled hellscapes from artillery barrages and poison gas, the rest were turned into definsive positions and trenches soon overun, until only the capital and a few unnoticed hamlets were left under Imperial rule.

Only the surprising and unwanted "help" arriving from the Warp in form of a Iron Warriors fortress asteroid crashing onto the planet in a perfect position to flank the Nurgle hordes prevented a total defeat. Now the warring factions hold their ground and grind down any attempted advance in withering crossfire. While the Iron Warriors are content with the slow attrition of their foes, sitting safely without need for forrays, the children of Nurgle clamour for their promised victoryh and the huge granaries to poison in Nurgle's name (and maybe export these seeds of corruption to hundreds of worlds). The arrival of the Circle of Seven promises personal interest from Mortarion in the near future, while the Imperium used the remaining star port to land relief forces, among them gland warriors surgically altered to withstand war with a hive fleet, as well as a contingent of Skitarii all equiped with adcanced artificial iron lungs and their Tech Priest master and his mad contraptions. Some rumours circle among the desperate leaders of the Imperial defence effort: The only reason for the deployment of such seemingly tailor-made troops is to use them as a testing ground to settle an ancient theological dispute. Is man or machine superior, more durable, more adaptable?

They fear once either force is brought down the other will claim the matter settled, withdraw and the silent spectre of the watchful Inquisition will simply file away the collected performance data and declare Exterminatus on the world. The only glimmer of hope seems to be the timely return of the highly decorated 167th Paladion, an armoured fist and living tide of Imperial victory in it's long snd storied history of almost a century.

Yeah. It all started with me putting a bits site bought Blight King belly next to a pair of GK legs from the same haul. I liked it, that spawned a IMO very nice mini, which spawned a full kill team, which spawned an Aos Nurgle horde and now the release of DG makes me eager to create a whole army to add to the Kill Team and my Plague Marine squad built in 3rd edition. Battlefield 1 and wanting to do something with my Guard (which consists of a lot of plastic Catachans and fewer Mordians -the original 167th Paladion) which I haven't touched in ages as well as wanting a setting for my brother's AdMech, my stuff and the trenches I built forever ago did the rest. In the end I want to have an unconventional Nurgle CSM/DG army, an rag-tag IG army made up of a mix of parade uniform veterans with knights bits, abhumans and Catachans salvaged from looking like monkey men to mini-Banes, a mortar-heavy traitor force made from DKoK models with AdMech guns and backpacks to look like PDF using ancient guns (based on the steam rifles from Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress) and my brother's AdMech done in dark grey (nicknamed Kaisertarii). The elite classes from BF1 will also be present, of course. Already built a traitor Tank Hunter on horsrback based on a nice (fan?) artwork, with the sawn-off drawn for a ride-by and a craddled Mauser '18 to be used as...a scput sentinel? Vindicare? I dunno.

Uff, what a crazy and overly long rant, but it helped me put some ideas whirling around in my head into a more concrete form.

Looking for a Skaven Doomwheel banner to repair my Nurgle knights.

Anyone no longer legal for Death Guard is now defacto Iron Warriors. The Oblits, the bikes, the havocs, Warp smith and heldrakes. Seems to work out since most of the units that got chopped are Shooty, so IW CT helps.

Warband name: The Pandemic Brotherhood. Specialty: Oblits, Zombies, and Spawn.

Working on it

Loving this

1.) Vectorium of the Thrice-Plagued
2.) Main colors are Green/orange/bone. To fit with the 'Thrice-Plagued' theme I have three color schemes in my army.
-- Green armor, orange fabric, goldish trim
--Bone armor, leather fabric, orange and green details, goldish trim
--Basically the first scheme except I sponged a bunch of silver on there and then made it really rusty looking.
3.) Led by an Oligarchy of 3, they're triplets. There are 3 sub-cults in the legion; Rust (vehicles and such), Deliverance (spreading the plague, mainly termies.), and Conversion (Agriculture based, plague turns people into vegetation kinda.)
4.) 7 Plague companies, each with 100 people, and a cohort of vehicles and poxwalkers.
5.) Marshlands, a byproduct of there conversion process

<Dynasty> ~10500pts
War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

working on a Carnival of Death theme for my Death Guard army. Killer clowns, and evil amusement park rides. The Bloat Drones are supposed to represent the various rides like bumper cars. The pox virus used to create poxwalkers is a variant called 'The joker Virus' (think Batman with Nickelson as the Joker). The Idea is that a population get's infected with the virus and changes into Powalkers, some begin conversion into Clown walkers, and eventually evolve into new Plague Clowns (Plague Marines). Sometimes the growth get's out of control and you end up with possessed or Spawn.

Early stage Pox/Clown Walkers
