TROOP
- 7x Plague Marines w/ 2x Blight Launchers, 2x Flail, Champ w/ Plasma gun, Fist and plaguesword
- 5x Plague Marines w/ 2x Plasma Guns, Champ w/ Plasma gun and plaguesword
- 5x Plague Marines w/ 2x Blight Launchers, Champ w/ Plasma gun and plaguesword
HEAVY SUPPORT

- Plague Crawler w/ Heavy Slugger and 2 Entrapy Cannons
LORD OF WAR
- Mortarion

TOTAL: 1995pts

Where could I find the points for a Blightbringer or surgeon? And do you guys think this is an improvement? I know it's still foot slogging for the most part but the teleporting Blightlords might be able to get into good places unlike the pox walkers, which felt like a bit of a waste without Typhus anyway

I don't think Deathshroud terminator can take wounds for Mortarian. Doesn't the codex say any Hero's (besides Mortarian)?

You're thinking of the +1 attack. They can take wounds for Morty-chan.

I feel like Typhus is a must if you are running Poxwalkers. +1/+1 is huge and hes a psyker. 3 deathshroud should the trick. Could also split up the PMs and add 1 to take 3 x 5 with two blightlaunchers in each squad

Yep, I think you're right, that'll be a lot better and still fits the theme I'm going for

I fear that with this list you're going to struggle against armies like Imperial Guard or Space Marines that can shut down your anti-tank turn one and leave you with just the poxies and Morty, which will likely die next.

At 2000 I intend to run Typhus, 60 poxwalkers, three plagueburst crawlers, one hauler for the +cover for infantry, a plaguecaster, maybe the surgeon or blightbringer and a blob of plague marines that'll get the "no shootsies" stratagem each turn until it's too late for the opponent. Maybe even more crawlers or a drone if I feel like I need more heavy weapons. Overall your tanks and pmarines are going to get hit real bad, and Mortarion is easy to take down and kite by throwing chaff at him and then running away so the rest of the army can shoot at him.

Im gonna respectfully disagree. With deathshroud termies, Disgustingly Rez, and strategyms, Morty is going to be really difficult to take down. As for anti tank, almost every unit can take down a tank in CC.

Well the main thing is, I'm a huge fan of Morty but I don't like Typhus (he's a dick haha). So as much as I love his stats, and his new figure is great, I'm a fluff first kinda guy which is why I'm going with the Lord of Contagion instead (obviously Typhus is fluffy, I just mean going with the fluff I like most).

I have changed up the list now though, based on your advice Ineedvc2500, which I think will work a lot better:

HQ
- Lord of Contagion
- Plaguecaster
ELITS
- Blight bringer
- 3x Deathshroud
TROOP
- 7x Plague Marines w/ 4 axes, 2x flails, Champ w/ a Fist and Plaguesword
- 5x Plague Marines w/ 2x Plasma Guns, Champ w/ Plasma Gun and Plaguesword
- 5x Plague Marines w/ 2x Blight Launchers, Champ w/ Plasma Gun, Fist and Plaguesword
- 17x Pox Walkers
- 17x Pox Walkers
HEAVY SUPPORT
- Plague Crawler w/ Heavy Slugger and 2 Entrapy Cannons
- Plague Crawler w/ Heavy Slugger and 2 Entrapy Cannons
LORD OF WAR
- Mortarion

I think this way, I still have a unit of 7 melee Plague Marines moving up with the pox walkers to back up Morty and the Deathshroud, but I also have the ranged squads able to cap objectives and lay down some needed firepower. It still feels a little lacking somehow though, what do you guys think? I feel like it could do with an extra character or aura unit to help them a little more. Then again, I'm not sure I want to cut down on model count

EDIT 1: The plasma gun on the champ in the melee squad is because he's a custom figure and I like him haha. I know it's not the best use of points. Maybe he's better placed in the Blight Launcher unit though

EDIT 2: I swapped the plasma and fist champ into the Blight Launcher unit and took out a couple of pox walkers to put a fist on the melee champ.

Think I posted this on another death guard army list on this forum but I think is pertinent minus the plague crawlers, just cause is such a similar army (if include vault video):

https://www.miniwargaming.com/content/NEW-Death-Guard-vs-Salamanders-Warhammer-40k-8th-Edition-Battle-Report-Ep-33

This game was close... If have vault membership and can see IG vs DG can see the folly of no transports etc (though they made some mistakes and both not optimised).

I just don't see if play an objective game you can win with the army posted (if they focus Morty, turn 1 which any1 can?)

14k Generic Space Marine Chapters
20k Deathwatch
10k Sisters of Battle
3k Inquisition
4k Grey Knights
5k Imperial Guard
4k Harlequins
8k Tau

Yeah I see what you mean. I just find I can never stick enough of what I want into the list when I spend lots of points on transports :/ and it seems more fluffy to be foot slogging as Death Guard

Hello.

Pox walkers without Typhus are not really good (compare them with AM conscripts similar stats and 1/2 the cost, 2X amount of fearless bodies), He could replace Lord of contagion.
If you still want them consider pairing cultists with THE DEAD WALK AGAIN and CLOUD OF FLIES stratagems. When they die you get a free pox unit.

Drop the Deathshrouds, too slow and not worth with Morti. 37.5pts per HP models for protecting a 26pt per HP model. WTF?
Classic sorcerer (warptime) is almost mandatory with Morti for a turn one charge.

Best regards.

Yeah I'm starting to agree, pox walkers just don't seem worth it without Typhus, and as I'm not a fan of his character I don't tend to like taking him, so I took them out for some Blightlord Termies. The only issue is now I don't have any form of transport without the Blightbringer. And also don't really have a screening unit anymore :/

I'm finding it hard to put everything I want into these lists, as I'd love some drones to be in there too, but I just can't if I want the tanks or anywhere near enough Plague Marines.

You're also right about the Deathshroud but it feels wrong taking Morty without his bodyguard haha.

At the end of the day your going to have a really hard time when your trying to play both Fluff and Competitive. You can be fluffy and have a tough list, but it's never going to be where it needs to be in order to be truly competitive in any real tournament. My recommendation to you and really anyone who won't take certain things based off of fluff is, run what you want and don't worry about optimizing for competitive play because I s never going to happen.

Play, have fun, spread the disease, profit.

Yep that's very true, Bad_Sheep37. I was just hoping I could get some sort of competitiveness from a fluffy list, but that tends to not happen haha. But that's fine, I can deal with losing 77% of the time if my army looks swish bang

From the wording on the Flail, it can't be given to the Champion

Dont get me wrong, you can have a fluffy list that is "Competitive", its just not going to be top tier competitive. This is actually how I prefer to play 40k as well. I'm all about my army composition and making sure it looks sweet and makes sense. With that said, I tend to build really solid lists that fair "well" at tournaments. I'm also not expecting to take down major events with the lists I build though lol

Ah yes, I see what you mean. That's kinda lame but I guess it's fair. Thanks for that, it totally went over my head

Yeah I don't tend to make lists to compete with event lists. I've seen the Guilliman and Razerback spam haha, but yeah you're right. Do you think mine will hold up against much? I think the two main issues with it are no screening units and not enough mobility.
