I apologize if this is answered in the Codex (I only have the Index), but I have seen several battle reports and tactical articles saying that Oblits have 4 shots.
In the index, it says Oblits have "fleshmetal guns" and those are Assault 2.

So do they have 1 or 2? RAW (in the index at least) looks to me like "fleshmetal guns" is a single Assault 2 weapon, thus Oblits should only have 2 shots
Model-wise it makes sense for them to have 2 actual guns since they no longer have a melee weapon, you would assume both arms could morph into separate weapons.

Thanks in advance

They got upped to Assault 4 in the codex, iirc

They have one set of Fleshmetals guns, which were ORIGINALLY Assault 2.

However, in the Codex, they were updated to be Assault 4.

Thanks for the clarification. I'll make a note in my index.

I don't really plan on getting the Codex since I will only own about 20 CSM models to face off against my ~20 Loyalist marine models in games at home with my sons.
Until they show real interest in starting their own armies, the Indexes should be fine for us and we'll still use the points and units as shown. But getting double the shots from Oblits really makes them an appealing option.

Oblits with 4 shots are friggin' nasty.

+Deepstrike
+Terminator armour
+3 wounds a piece (meaning the unit actually has 9 wound vs. 10 in a normal squad of 5 terminators)
+You get 12 shots which at their worst are Strength 7, -1 Save, 1 wound.
+10 power for three (vs. 14 power for 5 terminators).

Get a little lucky with your rolls and you're shooting damn near 12 lascannons per round.

Yeah, confirmed, they were upgunned from 2 to 4 shots in the codex. They seem decent.

Maybe flash gitz will get double shots for free too. One can dream......

So, second question:

I know you roll the three D3 for the whole unit as soon as you declare they will be shooting, but do you do so before you declare the unit's target(s) or after?
Obviously if the unit is in range of several different targets, the D3 rolls may change what their optimal target will be.
For example, if they are in range to both a Razorback and a unit of Marines, rolling high on the Damage D3 will make it more appealing to shoot the Razorback,

Likewise, if you roll really well on both the Damage and AP D3, then it could be tempting to split fire between 2 targets.

The rule tells you. Roll when chosen to shoot. So you choose them (Shooting step 1), roll D3s, then select targets (Shooting step 2) etc.

Excellent, that is how I was reading it. Thanx

Really REALLY oddly, you actually roll the Damage in this case BEFOREHAND.

Fleshmetal Guns: When a unit of Obliterators is chosen to shoot in the Shoot phase or in Overwatch, roll three D3, one after the other. The first roll is added to 6 to determine the Strength for the unit's shooting attacks, the second roll is the AP, and the third roll is the Damage.

It then follows that up with an example showing 3 dice rolled, and the last die being a 2, meaning ALL the shots are 2 damage. This can be both good or bad; as having ALL shots be 3 damage or ALL shots be 1 damage makes them less reliable than a Damage of D3, but with a higher top-end too.

It's probably written this was just for simplicity. Get all the random number rolling done in 1 step before proceeding with Hit, Wound and Save rolls.
It is odd, but I like it for streamlining.

I made it one step easier. I purchased some actual D3's (so that opponents can easily read the results etc.) and I just roll three of them on the table, using them from left to right to modify the stat line.

Makes it quick and easy and no confusion from my opponent. Personally I choose a unit to shoot at and then roll - as I feel that's more fair, but rules as written - do what you need to.
