Hey guys,

Starting out from scratch in 8th edition! Looking at picking up some Space Wolves.. So I've put a list together!

Any criticism welcome. Idea being this is to be the 'core' list and I'll pick up other things to go with it as time moves on.

Thanks!

You've got the makings of a solid list. I'd drop the Lone Wolf, add another body to the Thunderwolf Calvary, and swap the Long Fangs from Plasma to Lascannons.

Thanks! It's been a while but it's great knowing I'm going the right way.

The changes leave me with 100 pts to spare. Would you agree with removing the plasma from the Long Fang leader. And getting a drop pod?

Long fangs with 4 plasmaguns? You mean plasma cannons maybe?

Why the crusader? To carry the 15 grey hunters leaving the razorback empty and only focused on shooting?

The wolf priest is wasted since you only have 3 TWC and the lone wolf that can benefit from him. I'd cut the priest and the lone wolf in order to add a squad of terminators of wulfen that rides in the crusader.

I meant cannons! Still remember/relearning what guns are on what. In light of the suggestions above. How about the below; bearing in mind I will be getting more to swap in and out.

My 'left to get' list to swap around would be;

Stormfang
More Thunderwolves
Wolf Guard Terminators(no idea on their loadout. Help?)

If he adds another TWC, that Wolf Priest gets more viable.

As for the Crusader - Sometimes running one empty isn't the worst thing in the world. They make a distraction carnifex, and a Crusader still puts out loads of dakka.
I've even seen opponents ignore an empty one before because it wasn't delivering any payload.

Am I alone in thinking thunderwolf cav are hard to justify this edition?!?! The have less atks, cost a lot compared to other elite fast attackers, and overwatch is a b*tch. Lately I'd rather hustle squads of wolf guard bikers around and combo plasma things to soften them up. Then charge with cheap frost swords... also, I think for the cost, frost sword and frost axe both rule. Wolf claws are a bit pricey. hammers of all sorts (and fists really) are nifty but ultra expensive.

Wulfen love land raiders.... (you can easily make ten wulfen with the one box and an extra set of leg and body bits. Just need some extra backpacks)

Bloodclaws love land raiders... can fit 15 and that priest.

Byorn is just silly good, albeit expensive.

Footslogging grey hunters love those rune priest cover saves and are great to just march with wulfen.... march Bjorn to for those hit rolls. Negate plasma wounds and go for the last edition Terrie squad leaders with shield in case they start taking ladcannon fire.

Eviscerator is fun (eversor is almost impossible not to pay for himself at 65 points though, worthy consideration as a distraction).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also, can field a single terminator squad, as it is really nice to have something deep striking to spearhead.

5x termies with storm bolter and power sword = 200 points....

I prefer to run 2x shield plus frost sword + 3x combo plasma + frost sword for 232 points, they always pay for themselves, even if they don't kill that many points, just the attention they get, the changes enemy will make to deployment to prevent good deep-strikes, etc. I used to run drop pods, but with their price increase and grey hunters being not the greatest unit ever (still great) I now prefer 5 man terminator squads.

I love TWC and I tipycally include them. They just have a different role now, they're an anti infantry tool. Wolf guard bikers are very good but in melee they're luckluster compared to the TWC. I usually keep them cheap, half of them with SS and a thunder hammer for the leader.

Wulfen are always solid but if they ride in a transport they become a huge point sink since their transports could only be land raiders or stormwolves. I tipycally run them on foot when I include them, usually two squads. They're very good in blood claws themed lists.

Shooty terminators are not worthy IMHO, bikers can do the same job while being more mobile. I usually take 3 TH/SS, one assault cannon and the rest are storm bolters and power swords, cheap bodies you may need if you suffer AP-nothing firepower or mortal wounds.

The shoots terminators are just to have SOMeTHING deep striking. Yes bikers are better stat / value and shoot more, but with drop pods costing 100 now, a 200 point teerminator squad is the easiest way for wolves to deep strike a big distraction on the enemy lines. I tend to ally my wolves with guard and run scions, so I haven't tested my terminators enough. TWC can still wreck infantry, but man they can get chewed up by rapid fire range overwatch with good dice rolls on enemy side.
