You'd need a screening unit to protect the rest. That or a few dedicated transports. Remember that we are a slow close-quarters army. As such, enemies with long range weaponry will tear you down.

I think you're right. Maybe I'll have to get rid of one of the Plague Marine squads and put in some cultists or poxwalkers.

I think your Bloat Drones are too cheap , you haven't paid for the Plague Probes , they should be 25 points more.

I'm not a death guard player. However, I would defiantly recommend some transports or something to make your med to short ranged army more survivable and maneuverable.
For an example of a similar army to you (eg no transports etc) in context:

If have vault membership see the Morti army vs Imperial guard

Though I don't think these armies are optimised and they made some mistakes etc. Is an example of Morty in action if want to see.

You guys are all right.

Man, this is a tougher list than I expected!

These are my goals:
-Morty and 3 Drones to support him
-A unit of at least 10 PM plus a biologus putrifier for grenade shenanigans
-At least one PBC for a little fire support

It's harder than I thought it would be at 1850, might just have to make a 2000 point list!

Its a real problem with Death Guard , I play Orks and Tallarn Guard usually.
Playing Death Guard , the army is so expensive points wise.
Add a few of the cool things and there's no room for decent sized plague marine units :(

Points are very tight in a Death Guard list. I have been tinkering with lists since I got my book on Friday and I can't seem to get one that I like. I think it comes down to two build styles: Mortarion or no Mortarion. If you're fielding the big guy then I think your list has to be built around getting him into combat as soon as possible. This requires a further investment of points in the form of an allied chaos sorcerer (warp time) and possibly some death shroud. All of this requires that you spend nearly half your points in a 2k list to get Mortarion into the fight. He is not nearly as survivable as his data slate and math hammer suggests. Against a dedicated gunline, expect him to die on T1 or be very weakened.

The second style uses the more traditional list of pox walker spam with typhus and some daemon princes. The new vehicles look like they have some potential. Bloat drones are great, probably one of the best units in the codex.

These are just some random musings that I have had since trying to get my head around the codex.

I've been trying to make a list for days, but with Morty, you just can't fit enough in. I'm having more luck not including him, which is quite upsetting because his model is utterly beautiful

OK, thanks for the advice and corrections guys. It is indeed hard to fit Morty in points wise but I'm just compelled to do so! I've updated my OP with a 2nd shot at it.
