Hello all,

I am returning from 5th. I am older, wiser, and somewhat richer. I see prices havn't moved much. I went over to Flames of war for a few years and liked that, now I want to come back to 40k.

What is different from 5th vs 8th? Strong? Weak?

I have Vanilla (smurf) marines. Mostly infantry, it seems like a lot of vehicles and flying stuff rules these days. Also deathwatch is a thing now, I had to bit bash a unit and field them as sternguard.

My other army is Nids, i have a lot. Horde style, lots of genestealers (prob like 50+) and gaunts. A few MC and what not.

I know SM will always be a "top tier" bc it GW baby. How are nids these days?
How is the GW management these days?

Tyrnaids with brood lords, genestealers, and swarmlord will destroy anything they look at, and 50 genes is amazing good right now.

Space marines are not top dog though. If I would make a guess I would say imperial guard are top dogs.

Welcome back! Just came back myself a few months ago, 8th edition is a terrific time to jump back in, games are easier to get used to and understand than years ago. They really did a good job speeding the game up and making it easier to understand / get into.

As far as GW management goes, it is improving quite a lot. Though, they were at such a deficit in that regard that it's not hard to improve.

I think the rules for 8th are a massive improvement over 7th. Not perfect, but much better. If you play Smurfs, you might want to look into some kind of gunline army - Devastators and tanks are your friends (and so is Guilliman).

One thing that has changed are that the rules are free, you should go download the battle primer and check them out. Its basically and entirely new and IMHO a very fun game. I also had not played since 5th. I wanted 6th to be the change that 8th is and not just another incremental change but thats exactly what 6th was so I got bored and stopped playing. I haven't played enough yet to comment on what armies are better or worse.
