Situation: I disembark my dedicated assault unit from a Transport tank close to the enemy, then drive the Transport in between my unit and the enemy so it is blocking LoS. Then when I charge, the enemy can't Overwatch me because they don't have LoS through the Transport. (My guys have to have the distance to charge around the Transport, unless they have fly, but it would be possible to position it so that it's a pretty short charge.

I'm already pretty sure this is a legal move. My question is: would you consider this a "dick move"? Is this something only "that guy" would do? Or is it a reasonable fair play?

(I think it's a dick move, personally, and I would consider it a cheesy thing to do in a casual game, but I'm wondering others opinions)

Mis-read... Yes, you can do this to avoid Overwatch, from the Frequently Asked Question Answer as I posted before:
Q: Can you declare charges against units that are not visible to the charging unit?
A: Yes.

Note however that the unit being charged still obeys the normal rules for targeting when it fires Overwatch, and so,
if a model cannot see the charging unit, it will not be able to fire Overwatch.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.

It works. It can be hard to pull off as blocking LoS with vehicles is pretty tough.
Also don't forget the other option, which is to charge with your transport to absorb overwatch.

It's smart tactics if you pull it off. Nothing dickish about it.

No face palming required. A unit is busy shooting stuff elsewhere and gets surprised by a unit it couldn't previously see. Easy to reconcile.

Honestly, what's more unrealistic: not being able to shoot a unit you can't see that gets the drop on you, or there being no element of surprise in the game at all and a unit always having perfect 360 degree situational awareness?

Abstract system and all, but I can tell you what is not realistic:
Being able to Charge through an inch of solid walls because they are part of a 'Ruin,' over 8 inches of open ground and then into a Unit that just stands watching like it is a Monty Python Skit.
Gets even more laughable in 'basic only' when you picture a Model goes climbing a 2 inch high wall, climbs down the other side and then charting 8 inches of open ground while no one even thinks of shooting back.

All of which is off topic and unhelpful to the OP.

While you may have a valid point. its not one I agree with as you have granted perfect situation awareness to one unit while denying it to another. If neither unit can see the other, why does it seem reasonable that only one is aware of the other? I always liked the Necromunda rules for non visible targets of charges. As long as they were within I range in inches then you were able to charge even if you couldn't see them.

Cheers

My bad for bringing in realism. I should have just referenced tactics.
