Subject: Guard Codex Fluff Predictions: Who (And How) Will Still Be In the Codex For Special Characters?

As we know, Because Reasons (tm) there has been a several hundred year timeskip in the 40k universe.
Now, for the Eldar, Necrons, Tyranids, Space Marines, Orks, and Chaos, that doesn't matter, and all the named characters can go on their merry way.
That's all the factions right?
oh, wait.
So, place your bets! We know Kell is confirmed deadsies (RIP offscreen sweet flag waving prince), and Creed is in a convenient plot hole pokeball, but place your predictions on:
-Pask
-Nork Deddog (special bonus survival odds for being the only one in plastic!)
-Iron Hand Straken
-Commissar Yarrick
-Gunnery Sgt Harker
-Sly Marbo
Will they be plot-armored to survive the time skip? What stupid thing will they have come up with to accomplish that? Will they be dead but still in the codex? Will GW just forget they did the time skip and have them continue on their merry way, to be mentioned every time a guard codex comes out but never otherwise?

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"
"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"
"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"
"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!" |

Marbo has been hiding from time in the warp, stalking prey. Timey wimey stuff happens and he's actually younger than he went in.

I think only 112 years have passed since gathering storm? And normal humans can live up to 300-400 years IIRC with special wombo jumbo magico spacial science, so...

Still leaves Yarrick in a tough spot though, considering he was already ancient and retired *before* the timeline advanced... though Yarrick does have the nice "orks think he cant die" theory going for him, i guess...

Tau have the same problem. Farsight has his blade to live for eternity and Shadowsun can be put to stasis. Aun'va is already dead, so theres no problem here. Aun'si and the Pathfinder one I never remember? Probably those will be already dead.
Personally I have no problems with characters that are dead in the current timeline but still have a model and rules. 80% of the Greenskins characters for fantasy where like that.

I love that. If Ork wishful magic is keeping him alive just because they think he's a bogeyman, that's fantastic

Eldrad was dead for a full edition and he was still the focus of most of the codexes until the retcon, so even death won't remove those characters.
Basically anything lacking a model will likely be removed. Everything else can and probably will stay even if just for legacy sake.

Hell, I'm not that bothered by the Stormraven. Why? Because, as it stands right now, it's "limited use".When it's shoehorned in to the Codex: Space Marines, then yeah. I'll be irked.

Think GW would update Yarrick to fight using a Model T Geriatric walker w/attached oxygen tank before letting him disappear...
Otherwise, this:

I mean, the BA codex for a couple of iterations now has had 2 different versions of the same character from 2 separate points in time.
Doesn't seem like an issue to me.

Except we already know that standard isn't applied to Guard. Al-raheim, Marbo, and the Valhallan named character got removed with existing models. Currently the only model I consider "safe" is bizarrely nork, because he's in plastic.

Yarricks fluff is probably the best, and I really hope they roll with it - being the thing that terrifies the Orks so much that their combined psychic field gives life to him eternally is some awesome fluff.

Hes not safe because hes in plastic, hes safe because hes tied into the ogryn models. Theyve certainly taken plastic models out of production before... (plastic eldrad, for instance)

The whole 40K universe only exists because the Orks need people to fight. It's a well established point that most Ork tech only works because the Orks believe it does. So if the Orks could make things work simply because of belief, then that would explain why so much of the 40K universe works... it's because Orks believe these armies exists because they need someone to fight.

Exactly. He might be Shmork Shmeddog, or he might get genericized into an Oegreaein Battlesworn Protecto-Bouncer ( tm) but he's there and they're not going to delete him entirely.

Anyone with a model will be still alive (unless they were on Cadia) and kicking, every character with a model will have rules. Anyone without a model will have no rules and may even cease to exist.
There's a good chance Creed will be free by the time of the codex. GW loves to set stuff up and then immediately step on their own toes.
