Hi all,

I did my first order through shapeways prob a month or so ago and got my delivery yesterday.

I'm not disappointed (cause is always a risk) but am not ecstatic.

For shapeways:

The positive:
Order was excellently packaged and was a good time frame for international. What I ordered does look like the pictures and overall is o.k quality.

The negative:
Is alot of lines/pitting going across the outside finish.
Wasn't expensive, but wasn't cheap

To the products I ordered:

Some Repressor tops & turrets.

The repressor tops (white): Look good except: the lines and pitting are a big issue, maybe when paint them I won't notice but atm they stand out so much. The only other problem is the immolator turret base sections are to big to fit in (wanted to convert up a sister holding hf or sb etc from immo set). However, the normal marine top round sections fit in well (prob what was designed around. Moreover, cause I ordered some forge world pintle sets I can do the extra mounts I want and fit well, looks good).

The turrets (clear): Heavy flamer turret. Looks good, only problem is the fuel tank is so small (I have some fuel tanks left over from the original baal preds in my bits box which I will use to make them look a good size).

Overall happy. Would I order again? Maybe, if they fix the streaks/pitting across the outside finish. Will see more when I paint (If I cant see the pits/streaks then defiantly).

What are your experiences? especially with finish etc?

SC

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Wrong section: Please move to painting and modeling. Will maybe add photos after I paint.

Cheers
SC

A lot of it comes down to the quality of the original 3D render, and the quality you chose to print in. Generally speaking I avoid Shapeways (shipping+cost is always too much for me).

Some people recommend filler-primer for use on 3D printed models because it does fill it in a bit and you can sand it down.

Do you have pictures of what you ordered? It's always good to see something in person ---- something which I'm not ecstatic about with Shapeways --- almost no items feature "actual" photographs.

Done loads of shapeways orders and they have mostly been good. Generally its not worth ever getting anything in WSF, I have only ever had good quality prints once in this material. These are all prints bottom are WSF the rest FUD that's been inked;
