Subject: Possible new army? I need some suggestions.

Hi all,
I'm a SM and occasional IG player (both 1000-1500pt collections) and I'm looking to maybe start something different. I've got a lot of shooty and a lot of gunline troops. Tacticals, shooty Terminators, etc.
Bar things like CSM (just more power armour) what could be a fun new army? A more aggressive and hard hitting force. I just get stomped with my current lists.
Open to all suggestions, thank you!

I agree that GSC seems like a good choice. Genestealer hordes are a very good choice for an assault army.

I already have an established IG army, what would I need to change/add to make it GSC?
I also really like the models.

They can ally up with IG, but you would lose the ability to soup up with other Imperial Troops. it basically is supposed to represent the cult worming themselves into the local troops.

Why not wait until more codexes drop? There might be some neat changes to Eldar Soup with their codex, or Tyranids.

I agree with Marmatag. With how much resources goes into starting a new army, if you're unsure it's probably best to wait until GW's wave of codex releases are over (which should be near the end of the year). And nids are slated to be one of the released codexes and we may (or may not) see GSC merged into it.

I'll hold off properly until the new Codex drops and Battlescribe and others update.
But with a regular IG guard, could I proxy a little bit? A regiment that's only just been taken by the Stealers. With maybe a Primaris Psyker as a Magus?

should be easy enough. Ogryns can be Abberants, Scions can serve as the specialist Hybrids. Taurox or Chimeras can serve as Goliaths and so forth.

Yeah your existing IG stuff could serve double duty if you expand into stealer cult. One day evil, the next a day a different flavor of evil.
Should work well for you.
Or you could start collecting the best of the best, Orks.

Gonna pile on with the GSC. It's always great to start a new army where you can utilize models you already have to get a good force early on, without feeling rushed to pick up models to put on the table (part of why I picked up my friends DE army, so I could expand into Quins and CW at a leisurely pace).

If you want aggressive and hard-hitting, that is pretty much Orks to a T.
You could also try out any of the Eldar factions, which are surprisingly hard-hitting (just not very good at being hit)
I'd recommend Tau, because they can definitely **** some **** up, but I kind of hate Tau, so...

Well with my limited grasp of different factions, you could always go with some Tyranid armies? Specifically Nid-zilla stuff with a lot of big miniatures.
Sure from what I've seen so far Nids don't really win that often, but they are fun to paint and play.
If I was going to recommend something to win by?
Maybe Tau? I know, who woulda thought GrumpyTau is making a tau suggestions hah.
Nah, I'm mostly a Death Guard player right now, but my memories of Tau are all positive, they allow you a LOT of range on the board, and a lot of firepower, like a pulse rifle in seventh edition had 5 strength, if that's still true than on average your wound rolls for troop on troop combat will be a 3+ which is pretty radical.
Though their plasma is kinda bad now that they decided to give plasma guns the option to NOT blow the f*ck up on your average soldiers.
Just by shear fire power alone you should pick them! I mean if I'm doing the math correctly a Broadside with High Yield Missile pods and Twin Smart Missiles with a seeker missile on the side would be averaging about 17 shots in a single turn (eight of which would be strength 6, 8 more being strength 4 and don't require line of sight, and one is like strength 7 with high AP and a range of like 72 inches)
Hope I can entice you with nice blue people!

Are you looking to slowly expand your forces but have something different? Do remember that you are playing Imperium.
Get some Assassins. They are all really cool and offer unique solutions during a game. There really are no substitutes for these guys.
Custodians are also fun. They are the guys who bully terminators. And if your opponent wants to get rid of a single unit (w/storm shields), they need to allocate a lot of resources to this task.

A lot of really interesting suggestions, thank you guys!
I'm working with fairly limited resources in terms of starting a whole new army, a lot of it is going into my Salamanders.
But being able to use what I already have to test out the GSC rules and possibly expand into some of those models has me interested. I'll have a proxy game and see how they play out.
I was also looking at maybe AdMech? Keep in the Imperium but with a few different options that aren't just different sizes of Space Marine.
Also having played against Tau and Nids and the like, there was something just a little off about them for me. Units either got destroyed or barely touched. (Infantry and Suits respectively)
What do you guys think of the AdMech start collecting box?
