Hi all,

Below is my list I have whipped up for my local league finals and would love feedback on. As the title says, 1700 points (1698 in actuality, we use the Marine Codex for points values whenever the Space Marine section of the Index is referenced even though I am playing Wolves) and I will be playing against a very high level player most likely bringing an Ynnari list. This player will be going to play in the Las Vegas Open later this year so I am a bit nervous haha! After the list I will include our leagues house rules and my tactics behind this list. What I am looking for is any foreseeable weaknesses in the list as well as any adjustments to my tactics, specifically vs Ynnari as I have never played them before. All feedback is welcome! Even very harsh criticism. I'm new but I can take it!

House Rules:
-both objective placement and map choice/table sides are dictated by separate roll offs. Whoever did not win the roll off for map choice/table sides may deploy the first unit.
- finishing deployment of your models FIRST adds +1 for the roll off for first turn (done after 1-mission choice, 2- objective deployment roll, 3-map/side roll, 4- deployment complete).
-You my then attempt to seize with 1 (and only 1) roll of a 6 on 1D6 (unless a special rule or character dictates otherwise) no command points can be used!
-objectives have infinite height (no hiding on a third floor where your flying units can get it but that leman russ if effed)
- No deploying on 3rd floor or above of buildings.
-all floors have a maximum height of 3 inches (as a cap) each. Can be less, to a minimum of 1 inch.
-no rage quitting and launching a metal sanguinor into the walls of Dragons Den.

Finals Rules:
You can make 1 (and only 1) list, to be submitted to me before your first game. You CANNOT deviate from this list. Those are your points and your list and your army till the bitter end.
The mission will be maelstrom.
If you lose a game, you are out!
LoW- You can only take 1 LoW, with max 24 wounds.

Tactics:
The idea is depending on the match up, I will either have the GHs on the board as objective grabbers or in the Crusader if I think tabling is a possibility/they need the mobility of the crusader. For the Terminators, they will either be deepstriking in to do as much killing and tying up the backfield as possible while the Thunderwolves, Wolf Priest, and Bjorn head up the board. Or running up with them inside the Crusader.

The long fangs will be sitting on a backfield objective doing as they do, Lascannoning everything.

I like the list, with one exception - I wish Bjorn's points were another Thunderwolf Cavalry rider and some Wolf Guard Bikers. I don't think Bjorn quite meshes with what this list wants to do.

My reasoning for Bjorn is a love of the unit on top of a very heavy hitting character that's keeping up with the cavalry and LRC providing the reroll 1s buff, pumping out Assault Cannon shots, and being a huge deterrent for something like a Trygon to charge the LRC without second guessing. But as Bjorn runs 248 I would be definitely open to switching him out for replacements. I currently do not own any bikes or more TWC but could definitely snag some.

As a Ynarri player, I would be happy to see Bjorn on my opponents side.

As a single model worth over 1/8th of your total Armour points, and not being particularly fast moving, I have the option of either ignoring and avoiding him entirely, thereby negating that portion of your armies pts, or focus and take him out quickly (possibly with utility of Strength from Death for the free round of shooting)

I would be much more concerned by you having more mobile units in your army that can contest more objectives and require me to split up more of my firepower and resources to engage and destroy.

I'd suggest dropped Bjorn and add in the extra Thunderwolf and bikers as suggested by BigPapaSeels.

Just realized looking again that you aren't running any Razorbacks for your GH squads. Meaning they'll just get burned down and kited before they get anywhere.

@Drake, Bjorn is a character so you can't shoot him unless closest.

I've been putting all three squads in the LRC for the first turn and pop them out where they are needed. This only works for if the Terminators are deep a striking so I save it for the last of my drops. If I do take razorbacks would two with assault cannons replacing Bjorn be good enough? I plan to keep at least one of the back squads in the back on a backfield objective. The other option would be to use the points from Bjorn to take another whole unit of TWC, or bikes and 1 TWC.

Bjorn being a character is only relevant if the Ynarri player decides to attack him. If he avoids him as mentioned then it's a non issue.

Ynarri also have the speed to get in behind your Rhinos to attack Bjorn if they want to.

Either way I do feel his points are better employed elsewhere in the list

So taking Bjorn out I have exactly 250 points open in the list what as an Ynnari player would scare you the most there? More TWC? Razorbacks with Assault Cannons or Lascannons? Bikes?

To the SW players. What is best to fill in these 250 points with? Should I snag a Wolf Lord with Jetpack to give the LRC that reroll 1s? Same question as above on what to fill this gap with to shore up the loss of a major heavy hitter.

If I do beat this Ynnari player I will have a lot more games in the league, none of which against Ynnari so I do need to be semi all comers here as well.

Razorbacks with assault cannons are a solid all-around choice. They get your troops where they need to go, and they can put out enough firepower to mulch basic infantry units. My list runs 2 along with a rhino for a pair of 6 man squads and a 10 man squad. They've rarely disappointed me.

So I can take two Razorbacks with Assault Cannons and I am left with 50 points to spare. Which isn't enough to fit in a bike because of the heavy bolter bringing it to 55 so I could bring an extra bare bones TWC as one to throw ap 0 fire onto so he goes before the Stormshields.

Edit: I am still worried for anything that wants to threaten my core (LRC, TWC, and Chaplain heading down the board) with a big nasty like a Trygon because if it gets the charge off on the TWC there is the possibility of it dealing a lot of damage to them and them doing minimal damage as the Thunderhammers are not as reliable as True Claw.

I would be more worried about Razorbacks I think. Added mobility and firepower. Also means your Grey Knights can spread and be mobile rather than rely on the LRC to get around quickly.

Multiple mobile units are more versatile.

The 1 vanilla TWC not a bad idea either as extra wounds. They will be taking fire!

To build the assault cannons on razorbacks I've bought a lot of assault cannons from the dreadnought kit from a site that sells bitz. You can also use the ones from terminators of any kind. Usually those bitz aren't very cheap, I was lucky to buy them this summer with a huge price off, but probably it would cost a little bit to much this way and maybe it doesn't worth the effort.

Generally speaking the ynnari will have a lot vehicles and a lot of anti tank, and they will be very mobile, keep that in mind when you build the list.

Hello mate, the most effective things i found so far in 8th for wolves:

1. Bjorn with twin lascannon, i know he is expensive but always gets his points back, and is one of the best units in the game in my opinion both cc and range threat.

2. Njal in termie armour is great value for points psychic and antipsychic support.

Those 2 for HQs in the batallion.

3 minimum plasma Gh squads as troops

2 to 3 razorbacks , i play 2000 points so i use 3 , 2 with twin ass aultcannon and one with twin lascannon.

5 longfangs with four lascannons or a predator with 4 lascannons for long range support ,your choice

Then you need A flier and a hammer,

Either go stormfang and thunderwolves or stormwolf and wulfen

The fliers are better value than landraiers and you equip them with twin las, helfrost weapon, and 2xtwin heavy bolters.

An example list is

277 bjorn twin las

167 njal in termie armour

3x83 5xgh 1xplasma

2x102 2xrazorbacks (twin assault cannon,storm bolter)

289 stormfang ( twin las, helfrost, 2xtwin heavy bolters)

280 4xtwc (all shields,2xhammers)

175 5xlf (4xlas cannon)

50+ spare points

Or you go the stormwolf/ wulfen way the other units stay the same. The third grey hunter squad either enters stormwolf with wulfen or stormfang if you go that route.

PS i dont know what modela you own but thats the most effective build for me (pure wolves)

lonewolf81 build is similiar to my own so i suggest that!

I run stormwolf's but fly whichever you please!

Im running 5 wolf guard on bikes with storm shield and combi-plasma instead of TWC.

Ya the only suggestion i have is to bring rune priests, the runic armor bumping them to 5++ is very useful and for just a few more points than njal you can get 4 psychic powers and 2 denys. Might be useful against eldar and definitely can help with the cover power and the -1 to hit. jaws of the world wolf may be a little wasted on eldar...
