I believe I am purchasing my Death Guard correctly, but some double checking by the wizards on various rules would help.

First, Hellbrute: You can replace his multi-melta with a hellbrute fist, and then replace that hellbrute fist with say a power scourge, giving him a fist and scourge and +1 attack. Do I have to pay for the hellbrute fist that replaces the multi-melta and THEN pay again for the scourge?? I do not think I do, but this is GW...

What about buying two scourges. Can I choose to take, say 2 of my attacks with one scourge, and then the other 2 with the second, gaining +6 attacks? (I could split my attacks between a fist and scourge...) Hmmm or is this just the old 2 chainsword thing?

My interpretation:
Question 1: No, I only pay for the scourge, not the fist I replaced the multi-melta with.
Question 2: Yes, I get +6 attacks

Ok, so to get a Hellbrute with a scourge and fist, I simply replace the fist with a scourge, and then the Multi-melta with a fist. That makes sense, and therefore I couldn't actually ever have two scourges?
That does make sense. The second question becomes meaningless. (Although I still thought if I had two weapons on a character I could swing some attacks with each...)

And in fact, In the main rule book, page 183 under choose melee weapon, it clearly says in the paragraph just below the chart: If a model has more than one melee weapon...It can split its attacks between these weapon however you wish.
So I could say I am using 2 attacks with the scourge (getting 5) and two with the fist...if I could have bought two scourges...

(As a note I never found anything on your link about upgrading an upgrade...is the link incorrect? I only get four posts on the thread?)

Why not just replace the original Fist that came with the Model, instead of adding an additional step just to muddy the calculations?

This prevents you from using the same Option more then once, so no duel Power Scourges as you would need to use the third option twice to achieve that
Review the fourth option underneath as well, it only requires a single use in order to install heavy flamers into each fist
