Hello, I've been trying to do a DoW Dark Crusade style campaign for my group and there are a few things in the campaigns in the book that confused me. If you can clarifiy that would be great, if you can put page numbers too that would be awesome.

Sentries rule: What happens if the sentries aren't triggered/alarm isn't sounded? Does the defender get to attack at all? What if units other than the sentries are attacked in the fight phase?

Patrol Scenario (p200): Under deployment it says the units must have the Troops Battlefield Role. I can't find that anywhere, what does it mean?

Sabotage (p204): In 'The Armies' it says that the defender will need an additional unit to act as their sentries. Under deployment it says half of the sentries must be placed within 12" of the center of the battlefield, but the remainder can be placed anywhere in their deployment zone. Do they mean the one unit can be spread out? More than one unit? Any restrictions on point value for the sentries, or is it a freebie kitted-to-the-nuts unit for the defender?

The only one I can respond to is the second one, as I don't really play those campaigns...

Troop is the type of unit with the icon listed as troop here:

When you make your army, you choose certain units, and some are Troop, some are Heavy, or Fast and so on. They're talking about that.

The way i understand it is when you are placing the sentries, each model becomes it's own unit (much like kill teams) and half the models you have as sentries have to be placed within 12" of the center of the battlefield. So a unit of 10 SM scouts become 10 sentries. I believe there is a power level limit to a unit that can be sentries (10 power level if memory serves me)

Vanished Completely

I don't think I have the right book on hand, so I will use the Cubical of War missions within the main Rulebook for reference and I would request you review page 195... sorry for not directly quoting, but it is almost half a page of text.

While the 'sentries' Unit is free, the rule assumes power levels and states that you do not calculate this Units power cost, with nothing prevents that Unit from accessing the Datasheet wargear options it isn't really that great of a freebee. This Unit will be split into individual Single-Model Units as part of deployment and Sabotage ensures those sentries are the only Models the defender is able to set onto the battlefield at the start of the game. No other reserves can be brought into play until after the Alarm has been raised, by one of the many conditions listed on the page prior or the 'proximity alarm' on the objective. Given that the Defending team doesn't have full control over the Sentries, it is a dice roll to move each one, it is possible to keep the Defending team in a weak position for as long as possible.

The Attacking team would be hard pressed to complete the mission without the alarm being sounded though, and the defenders having a chance to start really acting after that point.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures.
