This is my first time taking tau against tyranids. The list is only 1000 points. I'm unsure of what to take, I know they can out swarm an army fast. Someone help!

Start with 50 fire warriors.

They can swarm but you have volume of fire. Fire warriors are good for this, throw in something to help buff them.
Commanders are amazing.
I love my broadsides but they are costly this edition, so maybe not best suited for this points limit.
I’ve had varied success with stealth and crisis suits. Burst cannons are good crowd control for swarms.
Kroot are always solid. They aren’t gonna do crazy damage but they are good distractions you can stick out front. Otherwise known as a meatshield and possibly taus only “good” cc unit.

Try to use your army special rule to your advantage by keeping your force in rows. Allowing everyone to fire overwatch but blocking your opponent from charging more than a single unit. That being said more distance you put between you and them the better.

Just my thoughts, I’m no pro.
