Hey guys,

first of all: hello I'm the new one o/
I really love the new models of the Death Guard army and thought this would be a perfect opportunity to get myself one.
I created a ~1500 pts. list, which took me a while to figure out, since my first purchase was the Dark Imperium box set and I wanted to use at least some stuff out of this set.

First things first: I'd like to avoid having to play a Daemon Prince, since I dont like him very much. On top of that I dont think the models available are particularly nice either.
Enough talking:

Battalion Detachment

HQ:
- Typhus [175]
- Malignant Plaguecaster [110]

Standard:
- Plague Marines 7x; Bubotic Axe 3x; Flail of Corruption 2x; Plague Spewer 1x; Champion with Power Fist [199]
- Plague Marines 7x; Bubotic Axe 3x; Flail of Corruption 2x; Plague Spewer 1x; Champion with Plaguesword [188]
- Plague Marines 7x; Plasma Gun 1x; Boltgun 5x; Champion w/o special weapon [146]

Elite:
- Blightlord Terminators 5x; Bubotic Axe 5x; Combi-bolter 5x [225]

Heavy Support:
- Plagueburst Crawler; Entropy cannon 2x; Heavy Slugger [156]
- Plagueburst Crawler; Entropy cannon 2x; Heavy Slugger [156]

Dedicated Transport:
- Chaos Rhino; Combi-bolter 1x [72]
- Chaos Rhino; Combi-bolter 1x [72]

SUM: 1499 pts.

The idea behind this is, that the Rhinos are advancing toward the front as fast as possible, while Typhus and the Terminators cause distraction. The remaining Plague Marines can either take objectives or give fire support.
All while the Crawlers will rain down fire from above.

Happily awaiting your feedback

Hi & welcome

first of all i really like this list! I have never played Death Guard but I have read through the codex several times and my only "suggestion" for an improvement would be to exchange the plague caster to include the Tallyman (is this the right name?) and a noxious blightbringer. This will help you to re-roll some dice and give your CC marines a better boost on advancing. For this you have probably to change your mid-range plague marines a little bit (plasma gun) to get the points you will need.

I mean the plague caster will do a great job in close combat situations especially with his ability to provide some mortal wounds when you are casting within 7" but I guess what you really want is to re-roll CC dice with your guys especially when your terminators are joining the massacre!

If I am wrong guys - please correct me!

Thanks for the reply.
Sounds like an interesting suggestion. I need to have a look on how to strip the Plasma Gun Marine, since I fear, there will be no 'oomph' left, little as was, when he's just a boltgun dude.
Apart from that, I see where you coming from with the Blightbringer and Tallyman.

The malignant plaguecaster might not be necessary, if Typhus is able to provide everything needed.

I would get rid of the third PM squad entirely if you aren't going to kit it out with max special weapons. Six 19 point Plague marines are quite the heavy tax to pay for one measly guy with a Plasma Gun, and if you are only keeping them to grab objectives then Cultists will do that much more cheaply. You would then also have the points for one of the elite characters.

Hm, I guess that's true. A bit of shame that most of the DI Box Set is not usable but that's how it is then.

I did a bit revision and got rid of the 3rd Squad PM. Running a few Cultists now and put the Blightbringer in. I'm still thinking about taking the Tallyman in somehow. Maybe removing the Plaguecaster.

How many points are you at now? The Tallyman would be good to have for CC, but the Plaguecaster might be hard to get rid of. You have to have another HQ anyway and he will be very useful for support. I would maybe even consider taking the Tallyman instead of the Blightbringer, since you already have a couple of Rhinos. Other than that I'd say you're sitting pretty for a 1500 point list.

Interesting to see close combat oriented Plague Marines. You'll have to let us know how they do.

I like your plan but I do agree on dropping that 3rd squad of Plague Marines. If you're trying to use the Dark Imperium set, then just add Poxwalkers. They're just gonna be objective holders anyway and at least they're immune to morale tests. Stick em in the backfield with your Plaguemortars.

It is going to be hard to drop the Plaguecaster if you really don't want to run a Prince. In any other list, I'd recommend dropping the Caster and using the points saved by switching to Poxwalkers to get a Prince with Wings, Suppurating Plate and Talons. He will help a little with hit rolls and provide you even more assault power.

In your case, I'd probably keep the Caster and use the points saved on the Poxwalkers to give some combi-plasmas to your terminators. That will give them some tactical flexibility and make them even more deadly the turn they come down.

I wouldn't bring the Blightbringer if your Plague Marines are gonna be in Rhinos. His buff to advance rolls is negated if they are in transports. The Tallyman might be a worthwhile alternative to the combi-plasmas above if you really want to push the list to more extreme assault but it does reduce the flexibility that combi-plasmas provide.

Thanks for the insight.

yeah I'll give an update on those CC Plague Marines

Good idea with the Poxwalkers, pretty sure, I'm gonna test it.

Is it worth sticking Combi-plasma on the Terminators though? Since my inital plan was to distract backline ranged units with their melee.

Yeah the Blightbringer was my idea, just in case my opponent is retreating constantly, but I guess the charge move should be able to deal with that... good point.

I'll try replacing the Blightbringer with Tallyman. I think both ideas for the Terminators are pretty tempting tbh... hm, I guess I've got no choice but to test it.
