Subject: Shoot at the enemy unit as if it were the Shooting Phase

There are a couple stratagems that allows you to shoot an enemy unit right after the deep strike you. Auspex scan (space marines) or infoslave skull (ad mech) use the term "Shoot at the enemy unit as if it were the Shooting Phase". In the case of ad mech, Belisarius Cawl only lets you reroll during the shooting phase, that is where I find confusion and I don't know if the ad mech units would be able to reroll as the stratagem says "as if it were the shooting phase" and not "using your full ballistic skill -1 to hit".

You conduct the attack exactly as if it were the shooting Phase, relevant buffs and modifiers included.

Because it says "As if it were the shooting phase", things that work in the shooting phase work as though it were.
It was pointed out I was wrong. Cawls buff doesn't apply because it's not the shooting phase.

To further clarify, if your models with heavy weapons has moved in your previous movement phase and subsequently fired with a -1 modifier in the shooting phase of the same turn, you would also be subject to -1 modifiers when shooting out of turn with such strategem, as the movement penalty lasts until the start of your next turn.

It was a change in 8th that I was quite happy with:
The Authors no longer mention 'shooting phase' every time something fires, it now means exactly what it should have always meant all along!
Treat the shot as if it was occurring in the Shooting Phase, with all the relevant Phase-Related Rules being applied.

8th made it so I can no longer sway Tau onto the side of Chaos, but they will eventually turn aside from their idea of the Greater Good to embrace the Greatest of pleasures. |
