Hello guys! I really hope you have some good ideas on this one.
Me and a friend of mine are playing 40k every sunday.
Its perfect and awesome in any way. Untill he got him self the venerable dreadnought with a blizzard shield
And now i got my ass served on a plate. I really need good ideas how to fight it cause of its +3 inv save its almost impossible for my tanks of even infantry to defeat it.
The dreadnought is also protecting Bjorn to make it even more impossible. Many thanks / a desperate soul

Try mortal wounding it to death since shield doesn’t help against mortal. Also depends on army you play.

What do you play?

Also going to make the assumption that its not a shooty dread.

ignore it 90% of the time, and when it gets in close throw chaff at it and hold it in place for a few turns

Basically what Desubot said. Alternatively you can unload high volumes of low/mid quality shots into it. For example autocannons, heavy bolters, etc. Almost any weapon that doesn't rely on AP to be effective. This will depend on your army though as to what options you have.

Ok cool! Well im playing death korps of krieg with a high mix with ordenary astra militarum. Well funny you mention bolters. Cause it was only bolters and stubbers that dealt any kind of dmg. Any typer of unit i should count in when i rebuild parts of my army?

Honestly dont think you need to

unless his whole army is nothing but venerable with storm shields you just need to prioritize targets better.

- Drown it in high volume of fire, low power shots.
- Kite. It has no ranged capability whatsoever and is not that fast with a 6"+D6" move+advance.
- As a vehicle without ranged weaponry it cannot do anything against models that are holed up on the upper floors of buildings.
- Mortal wound it to death.

Assuming it only has 8 wounds like the rest, smite could potentially be an excellent way to hurt it or get it to a position where it can be dealt with. Other than that it depends on your army. Mortal wounds are obviously the best but if you can do volume of attacks or wounds that would like shed some too.

A Stormlord's main weapon should be able to handle it before it reaches your lines (turn 2 or 3), though I'd... probably consider that overkill and a bad use of firepower.

Yeah thats a really good idea! Yes i also consider stormlord as some kind of overkill. But i really need to get The dreddy down cause bjorn who goes with him are super painful to my everything. I might mix up the stormlords attacks with some of my other units. And maybe use it only in one turn. If im lucky with dices it goes down in the first turn.

If you have access to Psykers that can remove it's invulnerable save you'll see it go down real fast

Sounds like your friend has the luck to get great value out of it.
Drown it in S4 - S6 shots.
Eventually he will fail both the 3+ invuln and the 6+ fnp eight times.
Annoyingly I lost mine to about fifty Conscripts in a pair of re-roll bubbles - re-roll to hit and re-roll to wound. Twenty shots wounded and I only made ten saves.

I don't break the rules but I'll bend them as far as they'll go.

Chaos lists often take a bucket of Malefic Lords precisely because of the power of massed Smite. They’re 10 points cheaper than your Primaris Psykers, but I’d still consider a council of wyrds before going down the super-heavy overkill route. 240 points of them will probably kill it faster than the Stormlord
