Subject: Best paints for brush AND air...

Quick question, which brand of modeling paint overall works best when thinned for airbrush? I am in the process of starting to replace my empty Citadel paint pots and also looking to grab an airbrush soon for priming/base coating minor highlights. Which quality paint overall thins best for airbrush use? Vallejo? Army Painter? Also, which thinner overall has everyone had good results with? I use Lahmian's Medium currently but only for brush work. Would probably get expensive using it as thinner for an airbrush as well.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Iv been using just normal vallejo game and model colors though an air brush no issue and hairy stick as well.
the air line also works especially the metalics but some of the colors they have are transparent so doesn't work well for some application via hairy stick.
best thing to do is experiment as you can get some cool effects.

Depends on the colour to some extent. Experimentation is key.
This said, you really shouldn't spray cadmium based pigments for example (reds, some browns) - in particular watch for this in Vallejo Model Color's range - although they're marked as non-toxic, when atomised cadmium ain't good. It should say on the bottle if it's got anything nasty in it.
I spray mostly Vallejo Model Air - it's designed for it, sometimes Tamiya (use Tamiya X-21A thinner). By hairy stick, anything but Tamiya really. That stuff sucks with a brush.

I second everything he just said. Also use a proper airbrush medium, I recommend Liquitex Airbrush medium.

Excellent! Thank you for the replies and info. I do have a few colors of the Game Color and am liking the consistency more. Doesn't take as much medium to thin them out. Also, bonus points for dropper bottles.
thanks for the heads up on the Liquitex medium as well.
Interesting about the Tamiya paints. Once I get the airbrush setup I'll have to grab a bottle or two for some comparative testing.

My paint range INSTAR is due to be launched soon and is suitable for both brush and airbrushing (thinned down however) but as the paint is already prethinned you end up using less thinner than with other brands with a lower price tag per ml.
Once I have delivery of the sample size bottles the product will open its doors early with a selection of GW matched base shades and a selection of GW matched layer colours.
