Been following the game forever but haven't collected since 4th? Always been an Eldar fan and happy they aren't OP anymore. Couple questions I haven't been able to understand in my readings... Plan on doing a large buy in two months so I want to have it ready for me when I get home. Money isn't really an object either, so I plan on buying some extra stuff to play around with - even if they don't make the final list.
Expected list:
Yvraine
2 Wave Serpents (3x cannons)
2x Scytheguard (5x each)
2 Starweavers
2x Harlequin Troupes (5x, Fusion, Embrace)
2x Shining Spears (5x, Exarch, Star Lance)
Kabalites (5x)
I'm still kicking around the list a little bit, but you can see the theme. In your face. Maybe not ultra competitive but looks like fun to use. Things I'm also thinking about incorporating: Guardians, Storm Guardians, Fire Dragons, Wraithblades (swords), Yriel or Troupe Master, Solitaire, Yncarne, War Walkers, Crimson Hunter, Void Bomber, Ravager, Incubi, Wraithlord. A few questions about some of these.
Eldar Guardians - The way I read the Index, it doesn't seem you are obligated to run them with a weapon platform anymore. Is that correct? I don't see many people running 12 in a WS; seems to be a good way to get decent firepower from a troop slot. No?
Storm Guardians - Any point taking these? 8 with flamers in a WS?
War Walkers/Vypers - Seems to be a durable and mobile way to get a lot of Shuriken Cannons for antihorde. Vypers are 9 points more for a squadron, have a better save and more movement but lose the invulnerable save and scout move. Don't see many lists that seem to want them. Why not?
Yriel - seems like a decent beatstick/buffing character for his points. For just over 100 points, he does far more damage than any Autarch build excepting a Laser Lance biketarch (costs significantly more) while still retaining the "reroll 1s" if you label your army as Iyanden. If you are running Ynnari, does you lose the Iyanden keyword? He would be paired with Yvraine. I plan on running a very close combat oriented Eldar army. I know the consensus will probably be "get a farseer" and I am considering that, but for some extra flavor, I like Yriel too. I'd LOVE to run a Phoenix Lord, but none of them seem worth it.
Crimson Hunter/Hemlock - I've seen people say that the Hemlock is better hands down. I realize the Conceal/Smite and deny is a useful ability, but from a straight damage perspective, the Crimson Hunter seems to be able to drop more damage in a single round with it's 2+ and potential 18 damage.
Can Solitaire run with units now or is he still solo only?
I appreciate any responses to clear these questions up. Thanks for the help in advance.
