Been following the game forever but haven't collected since 4th? Always been an Eldar fan and happy they aren't OP anymore. Couple questions I haven't been able to understand in my readings... Plan on doing a large buy in two months so I want to have it ready for me when I get home. Money isn't really an object either, so I plan on buying some extra stuff to play around with - even if they don't make the final list.

Expected list:

Yvraine
2 Wave Serpents (3x cannons)
2x Scytheguard (5x each)
2 Starweavers
2x Harlequin Troupes (5x, Fusion, Embrace)
2x Shining Spears (5x, Exarch, Star Lance)
Kabalites (5x)

I'm still kicking around the list a little bit, but you can see the theme. In your face. Maybe not ultra competitive but looks like fun to use. Things I'm also thinking about incorporating: Guardians, Storm Guardians, Fire Dragons, Wraithblades (swords), Yriel or Troupe Master, Solitaire, Yncarne, War Walkers, Crimson Hunter, Void Bomber, Ravager, Incubi, Wraithlord. A few questions about some of these.

Eldar Guardians - The way I read the Index, it doesn't seem you are obligated to run them with a weapon platform anymore. Is that correct? I don't see many people running 12 in a WS; seems to be a good way to get decent firepower from a troop slot. No?

Storm Guardians - Any point taking these? 8 with flamers in a WS?

War Walkers/Vypers - Seems to be a durable and mobile way to get a lot of Shuriken Cannons for antihorde. Vypers are 9 points more for a squadron, have a better save and more movement but lose the invulnerable save and scout move. Don't see many lists that seem to want them. Why not?

Yriel - seems like a decent beatstick/buffing character for his points. For just over 100 points, he does far more damage than any Autarch build excepting a Laser Lance biketarch (costs significantly more) while still retaining the "reroll 1s" if you label your army as Iyanden. If you are running Ynnari, does you lose the Iyanden keyword? He would be paired with Yvraine. I plan on running a very close combat oriented Eldar army. I know the consensus will probably be "get a farseer" and I am considering that, but for some extra flavor, I like Yriel too. I'd LOVE to run a Phoenix Lord, but none of them seem worth it.

Crimson Hunter/Hemlock - I've seen people say that the Hemlock is better hands down. I realize the Conceal/Smite and deny is a useful ability, but from a straight damage perspective, the Crimson Hunter seems to be able to drop more damage in a single round with it's 2+ and potential 18 damage.

Can Solitaire run with units now or is he still solo only?

I appreciate any responses to clear these questions up. Thanks for the help in advance.

Eldar are not OP if you're playing them as Craftworlds. Ynnari is a different topic. I don't think this is the right place for that discussion but I thought to mention that depending on your gaming group they will hate to play against it unless it's a very competitive orientated group.

Eldar guardians – doesn't have to buy a platform. I'm often hiding characters beside the guardians inside of a Serpent is why I never take more than 10 in a transport. Without support they are also vulnerable to morale and I don't think it will make much of a difference if using 10 or 12.

Storm guardians – didn't try them this edition, but if you found a use you can't make much wrong considering the low cost.

War Walkers/Vypers – I really like both for friendly/semi-competitive games. From a competitive point they are too expensive (6 shots shurican cannon from one Vyper for around 90 points; compare that to the standard razorback loadout these days). Most lists I see are Ynnari and Walkers/Vypers will not benefit from SfD is another reason why they are not used much I guess.

Yriel – no experiences there. When choosing a character for joining a Wraith unit though I often just end up with a Spiritseer. He's cheaper and adding the ability to deny psi or cast himself – smite is really good, even if he's not using any of the specials – is really nice.

Hemlock – is just great. He doesn't really get worse when wounded and overall is more reliable than the Crimson Hunter. But even the Crimson Hunter is no bad choice. Keep in mind he gets a penalty for fireing heavy weapons.

Solitaire – had an update, MASQUE had been added to his keywords.

Bear in mind that the new codex is coming before Christmas and things may change.

I realize the codex is coming out soon. I would imagine there won't be a MASSIVE change to the units I mentioned. I feel comfortable picking up a Wave Serpent, Spears, Harlequins, etc. I'd LOVE to see some updates to some of my old favorites, but I dig the new "good units".

Yriel - I like him for a bit of flavor to an army. He wouldn't really be hoping to buff the Wraithguard as they are good to hit and wound, but Spears could use a boost. WS will get him in the bubble. Might just consider running a Laser Lance Autarch if I run one at all. Just curious if people have any experiences with him.

War Walker/Vypers - Thanks for the info.

Solitaire - Still a bit confused. What does the addition of the keyword signify? I know he couldn't join units or get in transports before, but it seems he can now since there is nothing I read that says he can't in his Index entry. That correct? From a straight damage perspective, he will outdamage a Troupe Master, but with his aura on potentially two units, it would be worth more no?

Hemlock - Wow, didn't realize the Crimson Hunter would suffer from the penalty since it has the <vehicle> keyword! Yeah, Hemlock hands down.

Thanks for the info so far.

Yriel is reasonable in Iyanden but until the Codex drops, that doesn't mean much. Ynarri is strictly better right now and Yriel is worse than Autarch Skyrunner in that army.

Warwalkers and Vypers may become better post Codex but right now there are better options. Even Drukhari Venom is better for less points and carries troops! Again in Ynarri that is much better than Venom. As has been said, neither Warwalker or Venom benefit from SfD.

Crimson Hunter is good, and has the benefit of being able to operate at longer ranges than the Hemlock, but that is where its advantages stop.

Henlock, I can't say enough good things about this unit. Lots of tricks and movement strategies to employ, which when combined with other short ranged Aeldari units, you want it up close to enemy anyway. Conceal goes without saying. Smite also. Deny is very helpful too. Doesn't suffer degrading stats other than movement. Can move 80" in a turn and still fire at full effect auto hitting. Damage output when including Smite, is same as Crimson Hunter.
