Had a closer look at the Hammerhead's weapons options. Two burst cannons net you 8 S5 shots at '18. Four pulse carbines also net you 8 S5 shots at '18, but at 4 points cheaper and with the added benefit of being able to hop off the hammerhead if I want them to, or survive its being destroyed. The only disadvantage I can see is that drones have to target the nearest enemy.

At 16 pts to the 20 pts it costs for 2 burst cannons, is there any reason to ever go anything but gun drones if you want to run a cheap hammerhead?

Drones give up a kill point?

Also, while embarked the Drones don't shoot (and aren't allowed to) - their weapons are added to the hammerhead's weapons. As such threat identification protocols doesn't apply.
