Hello all,

New to 8th, haven't played since 5th ed. Looking to get back into the fray, so here goes a first attempt at a list:

Battalion Detachment (Death Guard): +3 CP

HQ
-----
Typhus - Psychic Powers: Smite, Putrescent Vitality, Miasma of Pestilence - 175 pts
Malignant Plaguecaster - Psychic Powers: Smite, Putrescent Vitality, Plague Wind - 110 pts

Troops
----------
15x Poxwalkers - 90 pts
24x Chaos Cultists - 96 pts
7x Plague Marines - 2x Blightlauncher, Everyone else has 2x knives - 161 pts

Vanguard Detachment (Death Guard): +1 CP

HQ
-----
Chaos Lord - 74 pts

Elites
--------
Helbrute - Reaper Autocannon, Missile Launcher - 112 pts
Helbrute - Reaper Autocannon, Missile Launcher - 112 pts
Tallyman - 67 pts

Total: 7 CP's, 998 pts

Basic strategy - Cultists bubble wrap the entire army (poxwalkers w/ Typhus and Tallyman and Plaguecaster w/ Plague Marines). Helbrutes hang back with chaos lord. With all the toughness buffs going around, the army will be extremely sturdy while Helbrutes soften up hard targets for the troops to om-nom up.

I edited in Tallyman over Blightbringer because I felt the bringer only benefited a single unit, while Tallyman allows for ALL my units to reroll that are near him, plus feeding be back CP's sometimes. Plaguecaster over a Sorcerer because, lets face it... hes just a way better version of the same unit. I kept blightlaunchers over plasma because the army needed some more ranged support; plasmas great and all, but it requires 12" to really do its job over the 24" from the blight launchers (plus D3 wounds!). I swapped a unit of walkers for cultists to feed my zombie horde.

Any further critiques are welcome, this is determining my initial purchase priorities; I have 10 poxwalkers, 1 drone, and 12 plague marines (+ noxious champion) currently.

I don't particualrly rate the normal sorceror or the plague surgeon.
But I appreciate there aren't many points to go around.

I like the list, it will probably do quite well.

I like the plague caster more than the regular sorcerer, mostly because of DR. Also like plasmas over blight launcher because it has better potential to kill rhino equivalents. Also I'd the the blightbringer over the surgeon so you can move the infantry a bit faster upfield. Just a few changes i would make

At a glance. Your sorcerer is undercost. You have to have a force sword which bumps the cost up to 102pts. Just saying. The plague surgeon is pretty much crap. He only increases the survivability of your army by about 6%. IMHO not enough to Merrit the cost of the model. I would take cultists instead of the second pox walker squad. You get up to 40 shots or 40 melee attacks for the same price as the pox walkers. Also, the dead walk again strategem is not usable to turn pox walkers into more pox walkers. It does work with cultists.

Great feedback! I actually realized this when looking over things yesterday, so I'll be using a Malignant Plaguecaster. Great feedback with the cultists too. Tweeks will be done in the original post. I liked the idea of the surgeon, I initially wanted to use Terminators with him, but couldn't fit them.

Good ideas all around, I like the changes to plasma this edition, makes them far more viable than they once were. I am picking the plaguecaster as well, mostly because for 8 points hes better than a sorc in a lot of ways

I made some tweeks, please see the original post

Don't know much about the plague myself, however, I will say this. The drones are a definitely good choice. Especially the flesh mower ones for when they get there.

Flamers are auto hits and in general an excellent choice (also comes on the drones). There is a lot of multi-wound damage stuff roaming around these days so large things can vaporize quickly, and also not quickly. Hellbrutes chilling in the back against most imperials will be most likely outgunned. Definitely by Admech.

Plague Marines are tough as nails but seem to die before doing anything. Best of luck.

What is the goal of the list? Fun games with friends, attending a tournament?
Against anything competitive it will get wiped off the board so fast while you're busy herding poxies who are way too slow to achieve anything really. Most players will easily dance around them and go for the juicy targets.

Its supposed to be the start of a list that I can expand to a 2k competitive list (Which will have Morty, of course)

I definitely want to use Drones, but feel they will work better once I use Morty (at 2k). Sadly the long-ranged options DG have aren't the best, but I know ranged support is needed or am I wrong thinking this way?
