Hey guys, If I sanded the logos off the shields, cut some of the more spikey bits off of the spears/swords and painted them in brighter colours, do you guys reckon they'd look like High Elves? High Elves don't really have any easily accessible basic troop models anymore so this was the closest thing I could think of.

I think it would work but is it possible to find Lothern sea Guards cheaply? I use them as spearmen.

You're better off getting Lothern Sea Guard.

Or playing one of the subfactions that High Elves have spun out into.

Since I've done it the other direction (HE -> DE) and nobody batted an eye, I think you'll be okay. Especially if you can do some head swaps, the helmets are the biggest difference between HE and DE.

Oh, where can the Sea Guard be purchased from? If that's the case I'd definitely just grab them

Spire of Dawn boxed set has 10 Spire Guard(that's their new name), 10 Swordmasters, some Reavers, and the characters from Island of Blood.

It's literally just a renamed Island of Blood set.

Probably on Ebay or local ads. Look at people who want the skaven half of the Spire of Dawn set. I got two sets of the elf set for 45 bucks in total once (although to be fair the guy priced them to move, so it'd be more like 80 or so normally).

The only problem is you end up with a crapton of Swordmasters, which don't really convert to anything else that well.

No, this is a bad idea. You shouldn't even entertain the possibility of such a thing.

GW will send the inquisition, and as we all know, no one expects the inquisition. And the ninjas, and the gaming police, and your third grade teacher.

They will take your toys and grind them to dust and give you a severe lecture on the ills of using proxy miniatures, even if those miniatures are practically the same in every way other than the paint job.

Please listen to reason and cease this mad mad mad course which you are on!

Armies: Space Marines, IG, Tyranids, Eldar, Necrons, Orks, Dark Eldar.

Actually Swordmasters convert into Executioners quite easily... so long as you have a Dremel with a cylindrical cutting bit. Cut out the HE sword blade, replace it with something suitably Druchii, and you're done. I used the 'clipped' spear blades from the old warrior box, but the new Executioner swords would work just as well.

Even the Griffin Prince can be converted into something more Druchii and used as a proxy Manticore.

It's that darn wizard that really doesn't convert over well, since all DE casters are... well, much more curvy.

Apologies, I wasn't being specific; I meant something within the elven range that wouldn't just be a further tax on your Special and Rare slots (they could make good Phoenix guard or White lions).

Ah thanks guys. I think I'll go with the Dark Elf spearmen and turn them into High Elf spearmen, as you're right, they look practically the same just with a different scheme and some extra spikes

This thread gave me the sad realization that while the Dark Elves range managed to survive relatively unscathed into AoS, the High Elves were pretty gutted when they started phasing out old kits. Like silver helms, bolt throwers and basic troops.

OP, if you were interested in getting the Island of Blood/Spire of Dawn High Elves and happen to be in or near Melbourne, shoot me a PM. I don't have one but wouldn't mind the Skaven half of one or maybe 2 boxes.

Playing Total War has made me come to a lot of sad realisations when I look up different armies I'm tempted to restart and find out sizeable chunks of the armies are missing
