Bit of a different post for myself. I need help making a 2000 point Ork list.

I'm painting up some of my buddies Ork models for Adepticon. He has close to 12000 points I think, so he's got pretty much everything you'd want to put into a list. What I need help with (and him because he hasn't played since early 7th edition) is what models he should have me paint up.

One disclaimer: we don't plan to play in a super-competitive event, so there isn't a need to make a list that you'd see at a top table in a GT. I have no idea where Orks currently sit as far as the competitive environment go, but I was thinking mechanized squads with lots of walkers of all sizes from kans to stompas and everything (including Forgeworld) in between. It's a big, BIG plus if I don't have to paint an army of 300 boyz! It'll be hard enough to wrap up all my projects as it is! I understand that the Ork codex will likely drop before Adepticon, so one thing to consider is the 'safety' of the unit. If something is on the fence between good and bad I'd probably be best to avoid it in case it becomes garbage when the book drops. Thanks in advance!

Its plausible that the Ork codex might not even be out by March, considering Games Workshop love pumping out all their cash cows space marine and imperium friends codex first. but fingers crossed its soon!

when 8th edition hit obviously people jumped on the mass boyz band wagon of 100-300 boyz. But as all the codex's come out that becomes weaker imo.

Dread mob is a completely viable route to take atm and the one I currently am.

Walkers (9+ killa kans, 1-3 deff dreads, gorkanaut, maybe a morkanaut although the gorkanaut atm has more firepower/killy, big meks with KFF on bikes(bike base has bigger area of effect for KFF), KMK's full squad of 5. Meka/mega dread is a option although ive heard FW rules will be updated in chapter approved..As for a Stompa any game above 2k sure, but it would be hard pressed to fit it in anything under 2k. Atm other elite units like meganobz, bikers etc are too expensive(pts wise)

That's my opinion at least. I'm sure others will have other opinions

About the stompa, let's wait for the codex before trying to field it, it's currently almost 1000 points for a thing that worths 5-600. It's basically impossible to fit in any kind of list, even in higher formats. The dread mob is quite nice, a good add to a walkers army could be the nob with waaagh banner that helps kans and nauts in close combat.

FW also has the kill tank which is very good and matches perfectly in an armored list.
