Hey guys,

My Dark Elves are currently based up with a basic theme. This is them currently:

I've decided to revisit the basing as it's something I did in a bit of a rush, and something that I want to look better. This is what I've come up with.

I've shown it to the guys at the club, and generally they like the flowers. Not so much the shrubs. And I'm inclined to agree with them. Your thoughts?
I think it's the size & colour of the shrubs, personally. What should I do instead?

Thanks in advance!

I think if your gonna go with grey based ground you need dead bushes and NO flowers. If you want flowers and what not, and lusher bushes, maybe try brown/reddish. Look at picture of the AUstralian Outback maybe. The "bush."

I dunno. I like it. The colors contrast well and make the models stand out. The ground looks a bit vibrant which adds to the sense of animation of the otherwise static poses. I would be happy and let it go for a while. Try something different on a different unit see how you like that before redoing this one.

Yeah I like the flowers and the grass, the shrubs seem a bit too big maybe? But I don't think any of it looks bad.

If you aren't in a rush to base the army, I'd put them aside for a week or two and then come back to them with fresh eyes and decide if you want to change them.

When I see the grey ground with fresh plants I just think of an area that has been burnt and is seeing some regrowth, maybe a volcanic region or battlefield that regularly gets wiped out with fire and ash then regrows.

Staying on the Australia theme, look at pictures of forests after bush fires have gone through, you get some really vibrant greens and occasionally flowers popping up through the black and grey background.

I might have gone with slightly smaller, and maybe a little browner tufts.

I might also scatter some small rocks around. It seems a little off that it’s a totally flat plane, with just a few stands of grass sticking up. In the “before” pic, I was willing to overlook that, as the whole effect was 2d. But now that you’ve gone into the third dimension, it’d be nice to get some variety.

I think they could also benefit from some Imperial Fists. You should paint up some more to liven things up a bit.

Not sure about you but black rocky ground doesnt seem like it would be good for plants in general

might just be me though.
