Good LORD you people are salty! It's an AT-ST and an airspeeder**, that look exactly like an AT-ST and an airspeeder**. The cards in packs thing sucks, but is a surprise to exactly zero people. I'm sure somebody will scan them, which is all I need, I already have 1/48th AT-STs and speeders aplenty, but it's nice to have official ones too.
For myself, I can't wait to see more non-movie troops and vehicles. Star Wars has always been more about the novels and comics and video games to me. Movies are great and all that, but the expanded universe is where it really shines
**I never understood why everyone treats them only as snowspeeders, they even mention in ESB that they were "having trouble adapting them to the cold". But since you only saw them on Hoth they got typecast

[quote}It's almost like people are taking their experiences with the producing company and other games based on the same property and applying them to this one, isn't it?
It's more like people are forgetting how this company releases games and are shocked that these expansion packs are exactly like every expansion pack FFG does
...but its pretty justified. If you've been a FFG customer (not a fanboy) then you realize how bad this game/release is
I am not a FFG fanboy, but I do have Xwing and IA. The cards are available online if you want to go through resellers, and the images are available if you just want to print out your own. DIY cards aren't "legal" at tourneys, but if you put in some effort making em look decent and put everything in sleeves you won't have any issues. Nobody I've ever gamed with is going to go for your throat over a "counterfeit" Advanced Sensors card.
It's more that it works exactly like everyone expected it to work, but people are disappointed that its not different because they've grown to dislike the way FFG works.
I get that, it was repeated so many times in the announcement thread that it's hard to miss. I kinda feel like it's on the official record and understood by this point. Azrael13's complaint about the flight stem not being clear I find to be rather nitpicky, but it's at least a comment about the new figures and not a rehash of the same "cards with minis" issue that people have complained about literally since the first X-wing wave

The flight stem is clearly a separate piece stuck into the base, it might still be in the prototype stages, it might be clear, it might be hard opaque plastic. It's painted the same color as the base rim, so I hadn't given it any thought until I read "They produce/order half a bajillion metric tonnes a month of transparent plastic for X Wing and the Speeder can't have a clear stem?". If that's not a complaint then you have an odd way of "observing" things. It honestly wasn't even meant as an attack on you, I mostly brought it up to point out that you were at least discussing the product itself, and the "nitpicky" remark was mostly because there's really no way to tell from that picture if it is/isn't/won't be clear, and because it's such a minor issue to replace a stem if you prefer a certain look. Like Manchu says, if it isn't clear then it would be odd, but it's not hard to replace it with clear acrylic rod if you really like the clear look. I prefer brass rod or a large steel nail painted black, but that's mostly because I've had so many issues over the years with clear styrene being so damned brittle that I go out of my way to replace it.
As for the rulebook not being in the box, that WOULD be a big change. FFG's big push the last few years has been 2 seperate rulebooks, a "start playing" walkthrough and a "glossary of rules", and it's worked quite well so far. They've been releasing these as PDFs online as well, but not having physical rulebooks in a starter set for ANY miniatures game would be odd, let alone a FFG game. I wonder how much of this is true to retail release and how much is just that we're still seeing what are essentially prototypes previewed.

Rebels should have got something like the hovertank from Rogue One, or something similar like seen all throughout the Clone Wars. Hell, even a landspeeder with a weapon attached, like the one used on Naboo, would make more sense than an Airspeeder.
Not sure what GW has to do with this game?
Seems pretty obvious that he's referring to what is essentially a flyer/attack aircraft in a 32mm ground combat game. They don't belong in 40K but were shoehorned in, and he's arguing that the airspeeder, being an aircraft, doesn't belong in Legions. I'd agree that they're a bit fast for a platoon skirmish game, but as was said they fit the role of attack helicopter more than fighter jets. Also, they're nearly as iconic as X-Wings and have been in every other Star Wars minatures game from West End to WotC, it was pretty much a given that they'd be amongst the first releases for Legion.
That said, I'm excited to see if there will be any hovertanks for either side like that n Rogue One or the Saber Tank

It's repulsorlift technology, aka anti-grav, so the minimum airspeed needed to maintain flight would be 0. It's like Luke's Landspeeder, it still hovers even when he parks it. Same as the Millenium Falcon or Lambda shuttles, they can go as fast or as slow as needed. Even the speederbikes don't actually need to maintain a minimum speed, they're already floating when Luke and Leia hop on in RotJ.
Inertia's a different matter, once they're going that fast they'll need some time/distance to make their turns or slow down.

Right? Plus there's a 1/48th snowspeeder made by bandai, and the troops shown at gencon are consistent with 1/48th compared to 28/32mm
Either way, my concern with scale is humanoid figures, as long as the vehicles are close.

"That's just how FFG operates" isn't a good excuse for their terrible (but effective, for them) marketing. It IS how they sell products however, and complaining about it won't change anything because it IS such a very successful business model for them. End consumers hate it, but like the game enough to put up with it.
I'm all for commiserating about it, but it gets brought up so fething often that it's just annoying at this point and adds nothing to the discussion. People hate the card thing, we get it. But the card thing isn't changing and there's ways around it like resellers breaking apart packs or making your own cards.

Since when was criticising the price point of a consumer product irrelevant just because it isn't an essential good?!
Since first page of the 22 page announcement thread when people were already whining about it, followed by 22 pages of whining about it, and now a 4 page thread of mostly whining about it. And since all the whining in the world won't change how FFG is going to release expansion for Legions or any other FFG miniatures game, you may as well discuss the actual product.
"It is what it is", as they say

I haven't seen anybody mention scale since the Youtubers started getting review copies. Couldn't find any that directly compared the minis to IA, but this is a screen grab from the Spikey Bits unboxing next to a Space Marine
and here's one of Agis' scale shots from a while back next to a similar Space Marine
Sure looks a lot closer to IA than the old shots from the pre-release resins shown at Gen-Con, they might be closer to IA than we initially believed.

I still may be able to sneak in some of my WotC stuff if I rebase everything on GW bases. People on the Facebook group have been split on the bases, a lot of people want to use clear acrylic and there's a number of companies already producing them, but the game is True LoS and some people are taking that to the point of if you can see Vader's lightsaber tip you have LoS to Vader, so if you use anything besides the official FFG bases then you can't use your figs in any organized play because that extra 2mm of height changes their profile. It's the whole "kneeling wrathlords" issue form 3rd edition all over again, I fething despise True LoS systems
I'll know soon enough, got my shipping notice this morning

I'd argue that they're right where they need to be for detail vs ease of use. Remember, there's going to be a lot of new people that have never touched a model before, just because of the Star Wars brand. The figures assemble very quickly and have plenty of deep, relatively sharp detail for the material. I bought heavily into Deadzone KS, and this PVC is miles ahead of that. The style and scale is a fair bit cartoony, maybe that's where the complaints are coming from?
That stinks some people aren't happy, but I'm glad I'm not one of them. I spent my weekend building and painting my core set and like the models enough I already ordered a second core set. I'm perfectly content with the level of detail vs the time expenditure to get them on table.
There's an online list builder that has the cards scanned already, so I'll likely just print out the cards and use my WotC AT- STs and snowspeeders, so a complete game for 2 players for $140. And it's FREAKING STAR WARS! I don't feel like that aspect is mentioned enough Automatically Appended Next Post: Sqorgar wrote:Miniature quality aside, has anyone actually played the game yet? It came out a while ago, but I have yet to see anybody say whether the game itself is worth playing. I've only seen reviews from board gamers, and even those weren't exactly overwhelmed with excitement.
there's been a few people that mentioned playing it just a few posts ago and said they enjoyed it. My FLGS was completely sold out by the time I stopped in yesterday, but there were two of the 40k players doing a single core set game and after they finished they both went up to the counter and ordered enough for a full army, if that's any indicator.

Hairdryer works just as well if you keep one at your hobby station for painting (and you really should). Out of 2 cores I've only had to fix one stormtrooper who's legs were a bit too close together. Hit it with a hairdryer for 15 seconds and it was all set to go. I'm still assembling the second rebel models though, I was waiting for some aftermarket resin alien heads to come in which they just did yesterday

They almost certainly do since they just previewed Lando's version of the Millenium Falcon for X-Wing. Also announced premium bases for Legion. No mention of material, but probably safe to assume it's going to be plastic

Because all of those obscure rules that nobody uses aren't worth anything unless you can convince people to play with them instead of just playing 40k/ MTG/whatever. And rules are the easy part. If FFG drops Legion there are plenty of pdf copies of the rules. TBH you'd be a lot more likely to get people to keep playing Legion after support is dropped, as long as you can find a way to get enough OOP models. But if you're investing in a game in the desperate hope that someone will join you in playing a random game with a player base you can count on one hand, well, I guess it's your money to throw away.
I hate this mentality to wargaming. Unless you're doing large tournaments it's not really that hard to get other gamers into alternate systems. If all your gaming is done down at your local FLGS because they have open play tuesdays where everybody just shows up with their 800 point all-comers lists for random gaming and tournament practice, that's going to be hard to push an alternate rules set. But if you're playing with mostly the same people every time, especially if it's the same group of people that play multiple games, then it's fairly easy to pull out a ruleset and get everyone on board so long as you're willing to show them how to play and walk them through a game. Some of these alternate rules are free or cheap PDFS and while some of very basic and amateurish, some are pretty darned fantastic. The actual FFG rules are fine, but they aren't so good that I wouldn't rather find a better platoon skirmish system. I've already gotten plenty of people to play Star Wars using Pulp Alley for small character skirmish using WotC and IA figs since it wrks way better than the actual WotC D20 system or the Imperial Assault skirmish rules.
Especially important because there's a LOT of people losing interest in the actual game locally since the Imperials are believed to be so much better in the game

It's just baseless speculation and fearmongering because FFG lost a completely unrelated license for a completely unrelated game licensed from a completely unrelated company. There has been ZERO evidence that ANY of FFG's Star Wars licenses are in jeopardy of going away and every indication that they're going pretty strong. FFG's other games and licenses are FFG's other games and licenses, their Star Wars stuff isn't going anywhere anytime in the forseeable fututre.
Now, a few of us were discussing the merit of using alternate rulesets because of issues with the official rules, but that's a very different discussion from the doomsayers

Sqorgar wrote:I think I'm out. It's not that I dislike the gameplay (far from it, I like it very much), but it just feels like a Warcraft 2 Star Wars mod. It feels like a Star Wars skin wrapped around a different game. At not point in any of the Star Wars movies did this scenario happen, nor could it have happened. There's not even a fantasy "What if" scenario in which such a thing was possible, since these game pieces fundamentally are at odds with their function in the Star Wars universe.
That was always going to be the case, just as it's always been the case with Star Wars minis games. The WotC game was the worst offender for this, but even the old WEG miniatures game suffered from stuffing every single on-screen and early- EU figure into the game whether it made sense or not, you kinda just need to roll with it and play out the impossible What-Ifs. There's nothing stopping you from playing "historical-only" scenarios and units any more than replaying "historical" battles in 40K, you just need to have a regular group that is on the same page. If you play open nights at the FLGS, or in open tournaments then yeah, gotta deal with it or move on to other games.
One thing this game has over the WEG game is there is so much more on-screen Canon to pull from. We've got the OT, prequels, new trilogy, Clone Wars, Rebels, RogueOne and Solo without delving into any of the novels, games, or comics which are supposedly sharing the same level of Canon as the on-screen things. The AT- RT is already an Old-Republic unit from the prequels that was never in the OT, so clearly FFG is pulling from at least the prequels/Clone Wars from the very beginning, and they correctly called the T-47 an airspeeder not a snowspeeder, so they know the EU that they're pulling from. Game is still new and at least locally is pretty popular, hopefully it stays popular enough to get at least as complete a line as the WEG miniatures

They mean a PROPER war. Just like when the Romans fought the Gauls, who notoriously used the same equipment and tactics as the Romans and only fought pitched battles of even forces...oh wait, they used completely different equipment, tactics and war ethos' from each other. Well, at least we don't call them The Gallic Wars or anything since they weren't real wars...oh wait, we do call them that. Huh. Well perhaps that's why Romans aren't a very popular period for historical wargaming...oh wait...
TL : DR - Star Wars is Space Romans vs Space Gauls. With lasers.

Complaining about the release of 2 iconic characters (the only 2 to be in all 8 main Saga movies) and a terrain piece is a bit odd. Makes more sense for them to be on the field than Palpatine, and it's not like they haven't featured heavily in every single other version of a Star Wars minis game so far: they were in the original West End SWMB, the WotC CMG, and Imperial Assault. Palpatine was also in all 3 of those, so it's not like this is new ground that FFG is treading upon
Skirmish looks OK, it's basically just new scenario/setup cards and a lower cap on how many of each unit type you can field. Games are 5 rounds instead of 6. FFG has a 5 page PDF for it that includes the cards

Oh, absolutely. I've become a HUGE fan of anything on a 3x3, I wish all skirmish games adopted that size. 3x6 might as well be a 4x6 table, and even a 4x4 might as well be a 4x6 in many cases, but a 3x3 fits really well on a non-gamer's kitchen table or coffee table. It's one of the big reasons X-Wing got so popular, non-gamers and beginner gamers could play it without building and dedicating a surface just to gaming, just throw down a neoprene mat and start a game

Doing the same. I was hoping to see all of the IA figs makes the jump to Legion after the rebel commander showed up in the specialists pack. Most of them have from the base set, the rest have some close-enough stand-ins or can be rebased to match like the Nexu, but that gets harder and harder the more expansions you look at. Really hoping we get everything re-tooled by the end, I've really come to appreciate the Legion scale over the IA and WotC figs, even though I have such a large collection of them.
Only problem with these previews is how far out they are, I'm still waiting for PhaseII troopers and Super Battledroids to release

I've come to really like the material for the most part, it's easy to glue and easy-ish to clean mold lines from compared to other PVC minis, and easy to cut and glue for conversions. Good old HIPS is best, but I'd MUCH rather have a Legion PVC figure over a pewter or resin figure, even with the detail being a bit softer. The larger size of the Legion figs is actually an advantage here, makes them easier to paint and the softer detail is less of an issue,
Most people use regular primer on them just fine, but I had some issues with paint rubbing off of RuneWars figures too easily, so I went overkill and bought a bunch of variously colored Vinyl Dye and it's been glorious. It acts just like spray paint, but actually bonds with the plastic and permanently colors it, so if paint ever does rub off it reveals the properly colored "bare" plastic underneath, so the edges of my Clonetroopers can only ever wear down to reveal gloss white plastic no matter how much they're handled, and when I get around to finishing them them my Royal Guard can only ever wear down to a bright satin red,
