Has anyone used the hellforged preds in 8th yet? How have they faired? I'm particularly interested in the performance of the magna-melta cannon vs lascannon. On paper they seem fantstic for only a few more points than the standard pred.

Mmm hmm. My Helforged Predator has done well in 8th edition.

I don't use the magna-melta, only the plasma destroyer and the lascannon configurations. Not sure I would want the MM, honestly, because at 24 inches you are in charge range of many opponents.

Then again, with 7 attacks when you don't get the charge, it may be worth it.

Then I suppose I'll give the MM a try next time I play.

Pentaflamer predators seem fun as hell (flamestorm cannon, 2 heavy flamers, and combiflamer). Drive around burning things, and then you're also able to make good use of it's powersword-tracks in melee (and all the guns don't care about degrading BS)

Most of the other variants seem about on par with the standard annihilator or AC/las versions of predators to me.

Local peeps are deathly allergic to Forgeworld, so sadly no. They look good on paper.

Yeah, there's one lgs that seems to dislike it as well. The other doesn't seem to mind.

The shop that dislikes it has one guy with an army of 6 Storm Ravens that obliterate them. So they have a sour taste in their mouths.

I'll be buying a few turret options to run them (since my predators are already Deimos patterned). I like the idea of having a few weapon options. I don't see any of them as game-breakingly strong, and I like that the Deimos (hellforged) Predators have the option of not taking sponsons.

Very interesting, in what scenario would you opt out on sponsons?

I just like the option - save some points, particularly if you want to camp a bunch of tanks with longer range weapons. I like the idea of the conversion beamer Predator just shooting from afar without spending extra points on defensive weapons.
