Morning all,

Trying to pierce the gloom certain releases seem to be having here with a more positive thread, revolving around a simple question - for the faction (or factions) that you collect, which are your favourite sculpt (or sculpts)?

I'm going to make a start with my top three for the Imperial Guard - and in no particular order:

The metal Cadian Company Commander, from the Command Squad box that came out alongside the 4th ed Imperial Guard codex (from memory). As is befitting an IG commander, he isn't in a combat pose, but is surveying the battlefield ready to issue some orders.

The Commissar with Bolt Pistol - I think he came out alongside the 5th edition Codex, but I'm not certain of that. Again, not in a very flashy pose, but one that is really the essence of a Commissar about to execute his duty. He still has enough detail on him to be interesting to paint, too.

Finally, and possibly the most bad-ass of the three, we have the Kasrkin Sergeant - he may be "only" human, but he's going to get the job done, and the Emperor help those who stand in his way...

Anyway, they're my three - I'll come back later to look at other factions. Please don't tell others they're wrong for their choices, but asking why they think a model is cool should be fine.

2021-4 Plog - Here we go again... - my fifth attempt at a Dakka PLOG

My Pile of Potential - updates ongoing...

Krieg! What a hole...

Krieg: The Grenadiers, in general, but I like aimy dudes, so the Grenadier posed to aim down his scope wins it.

Scions: Toss up between aimy Scion and aimy metal Stormtrooper with a mask (which I don't have, only unmasked ones, :()

Death Korp of Kreig - All of them!

Renegades and Heretics - Heretic Commander and retinue (especially the banner bearer)

Dark Eldar - Again, about 90% of the range (Hellions and Beastmaster being iffy exceptions)

Chaos Space Marines - Huron Blackheart, although in dire need of an upscaled non-failcast model.

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

I'm still a huge fan of the boxnaught for space marines, all these years after it pulled me into the game.

Imo the standard Hive Tyrant is really great. I have the metal one and it's awesome.

For me, I've got two factions to have favorites with.

First, for my Vostroyan Firstborn, the Grenade Launcher special weapon Guardsman:

(Not my model, but an excellent depiction/paint job)

I have two of them and love the way they look. Just awesome from head to toe.

For Blood Angels, it's difficult to beat the Sanguinary Guard

Just so much win, I'm going to be painting up a squad of them, along with Dante, and a Sanguinary Guard Ancient as a project in the coming months and am really looking forward to getting them started.

Those are mine. Take it easy for now.

Orks - Its really hard to say which one is the best because they have so many good kits. Dakkajets, Killa Kans, Deff Dread, Battlewagons, Meganobz, and Stormboyz are all great sculpts. If i had to pick one though it would be the standard Nobz box. Amazing bits and pieces with awesome looking Big Choppas, Klaws, and Kombi Weapons. All my Flash Gitz are made from the Nobz kits which was both fun to convert and my wallet thanks me for the reprieve. Pictured are a few of my favorite Nobz, Git, and Busta Nob.
Spoiler:

While not a GW model I love my Mega Armored Warboss made from Kromlech's Juggernaut Orc sculpt. Pictured is Warboss Vankraken with some upgrade bits he has acquired. Such a good sculpt and really sets the bar high for GW to meet if they ever decide to release a proper Mega Armored Warboss.
Spoiler:

Tau - The new FIre Warriors are probably my favorite model in the Tau range and the design of Fire Warriors are what got me into playing Tau. The new Crisis Suits are a close 2nd and im especialy fond of the kit options to make a proper iridium armor suit. Pictured is a Crisis Commander in Iridum Armor.
Spoiler:

Space Wolves - I really like the scout heads they include in the Grey Hunter kits mixed with the Sniper Scout kit. Sniper Scouts are really cool looking but the default scout heads are rather potato looking so the SW heads help remedy that.

Grey Knights - Terminators. Beautiful weapons, helmets, pauldrons, and just overall armor detail.

Inquisition - While the official GW lineup for the =][= is rather limited, they have always struck me as a faction made for kitbashing and conversion work. With that in mind I absolutely love my Inquisitor Lord
Spoiler:

Scions - Scions. Awesome looking models and their helmets sorta remind me of the helmets on Blue Gender.

Space Marines - MK4 armor is absolutely awesome (and i think its well liked at GW because primaris marines seem to have borrowed that helmet design quite heavily).

Some sculpts I love:

Horus(basically sole reason I picked sons of horus as first 30k army! Might have went with world eaters or death guard otherwise but damn that Horus was soooooo good looking)

MKIII basic trooper. Versatile kit, like the old look. Much fun. Just wish there was easy way to do bp+ccw guys.

Nobz, Meganobz & Ghazkhull.

Yarrik.

Orks: meganobz, they're by far my favorite models in the entire 40k catalogue. I also love the nobz kit because starting with their bodies and bitz you can build flash gitz, big meks, painboyz and weirdboyz. I've converted 16 nobz into those units

Drukhari: incubi. Amazing models, if they weren't monopose I could have preferred them over meganobz as my favorite models in the entire game.

Space Wolves: thunderwolf cavalry. I hate SM and I started an imperium army only because of them and wulfen, that says everything.

My favourite Astra Militarum model is Lord Castellan Creed. He just comes across as a total basses with his chunky cigar in hand and guns holstered.

For my SoB it's the penitent engine. It's an incredible sculpt, but it's the ultimate pain in the backside to put together.

For tyranids it has gotta be the Dimachaeron. I absolutely love the model. It's a shame it doesn't perform very well in game, but I can forgive it that because of how awesome it looks.

Celestine, Exorcist, and one of the Sisters Seraphim [the one who is shooting, with one pistol leveled at the enemy].

For IG, the Macharius Vanquisher. I also really like the split-trail Lascannon chassis.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades!

For Space Marines, the Terminator Chaplain. It has just enough parchment for my liking.

For Chaos Marines and Space Marines, the Vindicator and Predator. Pretty elegantly designed machines that gets the point across.

For Adeptus Ministrum: The Penitent Engine. It is the very picture of suffering rendered in an industrial machine. I just wish it was made of plastic.

For IG: The humble Sentinel. Despite the baneblade, leman russes, hellhound, chimeras and all the other cool nicknacks, the Sentinel just has a sort of charm to it.

For Tyranids: The Carnifex. Accept no substitutes.

For necrons: the Destroyer Lord. I still have yet to own one (waiting to get a metal one instead of finecast) but it's the model I wanted when I got into 40k.

For the other factions, either all of them appeal to me equally (Dark Eldar) or nothing really jumps out at me (everything else).

Don't have a favourite Chaos sculpt (heck I dislike them so much I don't use any Chaos models really in my Chaos Space Marine force)

This Imperial Guard commissar is the best IG figure ever - sadly out of production.

(Not my paint job)

Eldar? Too many to count. Though to be fair I wouldn't say any one sculpt ever made me love Eldar - just the whole story behind them.

The dark behind the eyes.

Dark Eldar - Has to be Mandrakes and Scourges. I've made several HQs out of these alone. I also love the old Archon sculpt, Incubi, Pain Engines and several others, but Mandrakes and Scourges are my absolute favourites.

Necrons - Probably the old Necron Lord model (I prefer the sleeker design to the bulkier, more heavily-adorned aesthetic of newer models), though I also like Deathmarks and Triarch Praetorians.

Imperial Guard - Probably most of the models I don't own. I like the Vostroyan range, I like many of the Steel Legion infantry (especially the Commanders). I like the old Power Fist Commissar with a book.

The thing is though, my favourite models are almost always conversions of one sort or another. For example:

Whilst I like Mandrakes in general, the ones I really love are my converted Mandrake Sorcerer and Mandrake Lord:
Spoiler:

Likewise, while I think Scourges are great, I'll treasure this one far more than any of the normal ones:
Spoiler:

I don't particularly like Destroyer Lords (not fond of their bulky lower halves), but I love my converted one:

For me it's Maugan Ra - absolute pinnacle of Eldar badassery, even after all those years...

Close second is a total oposite - 4th ed Shadowseer - Eldar finesse incarnate.

And third is a group of models - Wraithlords, Wraithseer (both in plausible, dynamic poses; nothing like official assemblies) and classic Wrathguard. Classic Wraithguard is so iconic form of Wraith constructs for me, that I posed one of my Wraithlords as close as possible to his "smaller cousin" utilising Wraithseer's D-cannon in a hand-held fashion.

From newer models, I must say that almost entire Genestealer Cults range is great, as are a lot of models from AdMech line.

This bad boy Commissar is by far my favorite and one I sought after for a long time, this commissar is more than happy to sing the imperial creed but he backs it up with a power fist just in case you get out of line, plus he's a bit on the bulldog size, so you know he's strong AND well fed.

There's literally no point in its existence where a shuriken cannon was better than a reaper launcher, but it's still my favorite.

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.
