I... actually don't know. Help?

Me and a few others at my gaming club are discussing starting Bolt Action, and I'm kind of interested in either soviets or brits, but since the soviet force I want to make has way too much infantry for my budget I've thought of the British Airborne Starter Army, 1000 points for really, really cheap.

I'm guessing that's a good start? Are there any other loadouts I can do with the box? And if I were to get a vehicle or too, what would be the best?

To Valhall! ~2800 points

If the others don't have armies yet it's cheapest if all of you go with 1/72 scale models.
Some people play with 1/100, but that can be more expensive (not so many kind of cheap plastic models).

If you want to build a cheap force use 1/76-76 as Lathor suggested. However be warned that you will not be able to play outside of your group if you choose this route as most players use the 1/56 (28mm).
If you do go down the 1/56 scale route then your best bet is to purchase the starter army and go from there. When you get it purchase a FOO team as well as you get a free FOO for being British, and of course get your rule book. Play a few games and then consider how you want to expand.
For tanks a Cromwell or a Comet are both good choices, or a armoured car or reece jeep squadron can both be fluffier (and the jeeps are absurdly cheap too). More infantry are always useful and some heavy ornance in the form of a SPG can be great to have around, or perhaps a close support tank?

I'm not sure that's true. What with the likes of PSC and Zvezda having a pretty extensive range of plastic kits as well as BF releasing more and more in plastic I'd say it's cheaper to collect 1/100 than 1/72 these days.

It really depends on what exactly do they want, thats why I said it can be. I play FoW and have still quite a list I would like to have in plastic and that's with german and US armies that are the best supplied. British is quite ok too, but if some others want to go with less common nations there will be nothing in plastic for 1/100.
