Sometime here soon I'll be piecing together my Stormwolf/Stormfang and I was wondering what weapons to put on it
(I plan on making the front and hood removable so I can switch back and forth between the 2 types depending on my current need)

Note that the hull weaponry on either side of the canopy also change depending on species of storm<noun>. One has lascannons standard and the other has missiles.

As far as best loadout: whatever is cheapest. The heavy bolters give your flying shipping container solid anti infantry. It's tempting to slam the multimeltas in and laugh about having 8-9 shots at super high strength and multiple damage with good ap, but the 12 shots of mid strength shooting is preferable tactically and saves you 100 points or so per rig.

So two twin heavy bolters and the hellfrost+las/missile stuff.

It looks like in the image GW used, they used the missile option for the fang, whereas in the index the default is heavy bolters just like the wolf

so both can have the same side weapons (twin heavy bolters by default, can be replaced with twin multimeltas or skyhammer missiles)

the weapons along-side the cockpit
The wolf is loaded with lascannons which can't be changed
The fang is default is stormstrike missiles which can be replaced by lascannons

So the cockpit weapons are definitely going to be lascannons
And heavy bolters or the skyhammer missiles?

Heavy bolters.

I like the stormstrike missiles over the lascannon. Nothing sucks like dumping an AT round into a heavy target and rolling a 1 on damage after you burned your CP reroll in the phase.

I was leaning towards bolters as well.

I'll have to see how easy it would be to set up the kit to switch out the lascannons with the missiles since the wolf can't take the missiles

Skyhammers to give a bit of a bonus for knocking out other fliers and I already have quite a bit of dakka on the ground already. Maybe skyhammers would be the way to go...

I'd go with a stormwolf at its cheapest loadout. So lascannons and twin heavy bolters.

I've actually mangetized the whole model in order to switch all the weapons and the type of flyer, but I've fielded the gunship just once. The stormwolf is way more effective IMHO and the multimeltas are too expensive.

I would like to magnetize but I don't have the tools, nor the experience (or the magnets either) to do so.

I plan on doing something similar to what I did with my Rhinos. To convert them into Vindicators on the fly, I assembled the dozer blade, the support arms for the dozer, the armor piece the supports go into that are shaped sorta like > and the cannon piece all into a single piece.

This new "dozer/cannon" piece now just clips onto the front of a rhino and turns it into an instant vindicator.

For the Storm Wolf/Fang, I plan on assembling the front and the hood piece for both variants so I can slide 1 out and replace it with the other. The section behind the cockpit will be pretty simple to do as well. Lift off the twin frost cannons and set the cover over the hole.

Uhhh...Are people actually arguing against the 4 multi melta setup? I have a friend who rutinely takes 3-4 of these birds in big games. He gives half heavy bolters and half multi meltas. Because the MM version is nothing short of a titan killer. It's a T7 flyer with 13 wounds. Theres no better place to put 8 anti vehicle weapons.

Except on a Razorback for about 1/2 the price and the same durability. Less wounds though, and not a flyer.

No power of the machine spirit ether.

In SW lists the flyer is the number one target for the enemy anti tank. And with multimeltas it costs 353 points instead of 279, not considering the unit(s) embarked. SW units are all quite expensive, so you need to save points, and IMHO there's no need of tons of anti tank in this edition, the long fangs and the flyer are more than enough.

Multimetlas are too expensive, the twin hellfrost, 4 heavy bolters and two lascannons are already a lot of guns for a vehicle that is mainly a transport.

Play with Power Levels and the points issue goes away. If it doesn't matter what the point cost is, what would you equip it with?

With PL take multimeltas of course.

I think I'm going to go with the missile pods since I don't think I have much in my selection currently for anti-flyers really.
I have plenty of heavy bolters, assault cannons, storm bolters and twin bolters for troops already though.

Thank you all for your help
