Looking to make some purchases but it seems a TON of things "aren't available online" or even "no longer available". Specifically, all Guardian Defender variants say no longer available. Anyone have any info; specifically, models being rereleased or something? Appreciate it.

Since the Craftworld codex dropped, datasheets in the boxes will need to be replaced.
So, on top of the FOTM buying, datasheets means stock gets moved about more often now.

General repack with the new edition's branding.

This has been happening for about the past 3 months now.

Yeah nothing to worry over just the usual Gw incompetence at work.

Should of done it before the codex released but that wouldn't inconvenience the customers.

Possibly factories not being able to cope with demand also affects. GW keeps as low warehouse as possible(since it costs money) so if warehouse runs out and factories are already running at 100%...

If they don't keep a lot of spare stock on hand it makes sense that the stuff for whichever is the newest Codex will be even scarcer than if it was just FOTM buying, because otherwise they could have just swapped the leaflets in the boxes before shipping them out.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

They're not just swapping the leaflets in the boxes though.

There's a whole new box design going on as well and renaming the factions on the boxes. Saw some Drukhari Scourge yesterday at my local GW, so it's a rollout process that will take some time.

Not that strange considering Nottingham is where the factory lives. It probably takes a few weeks to ship them across the pond since I doubt GW have money to burn by airfreighting them.

If only GW knew what their own stores had in stock, and send new packaging out. It's not as though Redshirts have time on their hands throughout the day to repackage the few boxes they have on the shelves.

Thanks for the info. I've been stuck on a boat for the past 5 months with pretty poor internets, so hard to find info if it isn't compiled easily. Just be patient; got it.

Sure, be patient - but also, even far before the reboxing Eldar very often go out of sale. Falcons will go missing for months at a time, etc. It seems a pretty low priority army. They also, inexplicably, have a number of core units which are ordered through GW only (or you buy it used off eBay). I can't imagine being new to the game and wanting to play Eldar with the tough-to-find army units and terrible Finecast.

Try planning for an aspect army sometime. My pocketbook hurts from buying metal models. Also my foot. Because those swords are sharp. And I drop things. A lot.

I don't want the best army, just one that isn't an exercise in picking up my models by turn 3.

It doesn't matter if you're not dominating the game; if you have 3-4 x as many models and options than the rest of us and you're still getting new kits, we're still gonna rip on the faction. If I had 100 + Drukhari kits all in plastic to choose from, or 100 + Sisters kits, I think I'd be more likely to be receptive to Space Marine player's complaints about anything.

I got lucky with my aspect warrior army; the previous owner did all of the painful collecting for me, got tired of it, and then sold it to me for 1/3rd of the price.

Ever since 8th edition launched GW has had spotty stock for all ranges of 40K. Basically because they changed from doing one army at a time every few months do doing every single army at once through the Index's and then releasing a new codex every month or faster ontop of those index releases its basically pushed up sales world wide on everything 40K.

This is great because its showing GW that their new direction with releasing more balanced rules and updating all current armies at the same time has been something the community (customers) respond very positively too.

On the downside it means that GW is exceeding their current production capabilities; thus some things are slipping out of stock for periods of time online and likely in local stores as well. Best you can do is use the "email me when available" button as that does influence when GW puts something on the casting list for a new batch (ergo everything is already on the list; but if way more people are asking for a specific model then they bump it up the list).

Ontop of that they've been repackaging certain things such as the getting started kits and also producing other lines and launching new games (Necromunda launches very soon). So its a very busy time.

It's honestly a great time for a new player; we've never really had a point in 40K before when we've had a brand new rules edition AND new codex releases at the same time. Traditionally we got a big almost relaunch of each race one after the other with a new codex and rules; but you could wait years between a new edition and your army codex being updated and sometimes you could even have an army miss a whole edition - yep go a whole edition and into a second new edition without any rules update.

Granted things being out of stock is a right pain; but use the email me button on their website and look up local stores and 3rd party sites which might well still hold stock.

Well that and because of the crappy rules and high prices before, GW didn't actually move that much product annually. Suddenly with good rules and decent discounts, they've found the demand far outstripping what they've come to considered to be "normal" for their production. I remember a spokesman saying that they've basically cleared out their warehouse of old stock and are having the dickens of a time trying to fill it up again.

To be fair I don't think they ever held huge amounts in warehouse stock anyway; likely they held some but not a vast volume amount since held stock is basically a dead weight to a company.

I just hope that if they choose to expand they do so carefully; I'd hate them to overstretch their resources and expand only to suddenly find a natural dip in sales puts them on the other side of the production ladder again. An important issue since casting machines are not cheap and GW keeps its production in house in the UK so any expansion is going to be costly - its not just a case of hiring another factory they'd have to build it.

That said I think they are doing okish - most things seem to cycle around fairly fast. Also I honestly expect there to be a dip in sales once the last new codex is out; At least at that point the initial boom is over and it should steady itself somewhat.

If the annual report is anythiung to go by, they're planning to revamp their production pipeline to accommodate for the new demand, so the whole "out of stock" issue and reboxing should be over soon (although "soon" is more like 3-4 months at the earliest).

Yep, especially as they've still a few codex to go and also the Christmas period that will, no doubt, push up sales.
