Yeah as per the usual with me, my title says all, I'm going to be stripping a thundertusk with beast riders I got off of a friend not too long ago, it's black and I wish to prime it white. But so far I have stripped everything in a Coffee mug with Dettol, I have a limited supply of the stuff and a limited supply of funds to buy more for the time being. So I need tips on how to efficiently strip the mini.

Thanks again my dudes!

I'm curious about this as well, as I've got a secondhand Land Raider that needs to be stripped and repainted. I was figuring just a large bath of Isopropyl Alcohol, but maybe there's a better way for a large model.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Yeah, I once stripped a Hive tyrant and a Tau Riptide, in a massive bowl, that was when I was using Super Clean which I don't really care for...
Dettol is cheaper but it's only cheap when you actually have money haha.
But the stripping of those two minies took forever

I used this stuff called Biostrip 20 to strip a land raider. It's a sort of yoghurty paste, so you can smear it on rather than soaking the mini in it. I wouldn't recommend trying to soak a large mini in dettol as they are generally hollow and not watertight, so you end up with a mini full of dettol that is almost impossible to drain.

Biostrip 20 is also handy in that it works very quickly. I stripped a few minis earlier this week, and didn't even have to leave them for an hour.

Did a LR myself not long ago. Short version: Simple green, bucket large enough to submerge model, tile grout brush, and plenty of patience. I submerged in water and let dry several times. After that, good as new. Pics in that thread.

Dettol seems to work good. I recycle mine for a few washes by just filtering it through filter paper (or tissue paper but that will soak some up) to get rid of most of the paint bits that float off. I tend to dip and scrub mine a few times before I'm happy with them (use a WOODEN tooth pick for the hard to reach bits).

I have a "dirty" pot which is full of recycled Dettol which I use for the first load or really heavy painted minis. It's generally paint free, but can be cloudy and slightly discoloured.
I then have a "clean" pot which is usually for the last attempt at stripping. It's normally new, but gets recycled into the "dirty" pot often. This is just for the last few stubborn bits.

Dettol is £3.50 for 750ml in most large supermarkets.

I've also seen that IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) works well if it's 90% or higher. This appears to be around £6 for 1000ml online.

I sometimes use acetone nailpolish remover on metal minis (never on plastic) just for a few bits... but that's just dabbed on with a cotton wool bud and wiped off. Non acetone nail varnish remover works well too.

I used to use tetracholorethyline, but that stuff is really really nasty and probably illegal now. Unfortunately it use to even shift the detail off the metal minis sometimes, so I stopped that, but will take out the first layer of gloss varnish after around 10 minutes.
