Hi team.

Im really looking for ideas for a scheme for an Astra Militarum army I am doing up as an inquisitorial force. Currently I have an enormous deathwatch army (40k points) which is all custom built/kit bashed. As you can imagine, I am over painting black on models.

My AM/IG army is like the attached photo - scion head and arms/weapons all around, with cadian legs and torso. I have a few officers done up with some of the cadian command gear where appropriate.
All of the tanks are specced up with sensors and high tech gear, range finders etc.

I'm looking for a colour scheme that isn't primarily black, and doesn't involve me doing a thousand grey highlights :p

I appreciate any advice, and especially any pictures of examples of said advice.

I... actually don't know. Help?

I've always though dark grey, with red as secondary and silver as tertiary fits the inquisition. Grey armour/weapon casing, red fatigues/beret and silver gun parts and trim

To Valhall! ~2800 points

Black red and silver also works for inquisition.

Black shoulder pads, red armor, dark silver helmet?

Black and red is pretty classic.

To be honest, if you don't want to paint black then Inquisitorial troops is not the greatest fit. The most iconic, classic Inquisitorial-affiliated guys I've seen have been black and red. Alternatively, you could paint them completely normally as any IG regiment of your choosing, but perhaps paint a single shoulder pad black/red or something to denote their affiliation?

Otherwise I can't really see how you could make them 'look' Inquisitorial at first glance without going for black/red.

If you want to avoid black, I would suggest Red Armour, Gold Details, and "Cream" for the cloth. If you look for Blood Angels Scouts, the "traditional" colours have cream coloured khakis to go with the red armour, boltgun metal, but Gold details. Looks pretty good, lets you keep the Red / Gold that seems common to Inquisition, and avoids black.

Kind of like this, but include some gold.

If I ever do an Inquisition force, they're getting the Empire from Star Wars colours. White allied/conscripted Space Marines, black overalls with white armour and helmets for the heavier armoured main troops, black or grey for pretty much anyone in just fabric, and an Inq in black power armour with a red power sword.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page

Thanks guys. I thought it would be like that - does anyone know of any good vehicle schemes for Inquisitorial storm troopers on IG tanks?

I'd say a darker version of Blood Angels. Deeper Red, a few details in Gold. If you want your guys to be targets, put Cream colour on the doors and vision slits. Make sure the opposition knows where to shoot.

You might try googling "Hortworth Rhino". There's a guy that has done a really great job with Khorne Rhino's, and I think it would translate well to Gold instead of Brass. Maybe take a panel or two and make it cream, to tie in with the infantry better... if you go that route.

I second the red and black. THe spanish inquisition is red.
Maybe throw in gold as well.

So red cloth, black for the armor, which will tie in enough to your deathwatch army, but your not having to paint all black. Just the shoulders and chest. So most of the model will still be red.
Then paint gold accents and highlights.
