Now, first off be warned - I do not like painting. My technique is not that great (and many of the miniatures shown in this post are minis I did years ago). The paintjob will be dissappointing for any painters out there.

Here is a picture of the first miniature I converted - and the first one I ever painted. I spent a lot of time and effort on this cultist leader.

He started out his life as a Cultist Sergeant. When I started playing Imperial Guard he found a calling as Sly Marbo. When Marbo was cut, he found a place in a dusty drawer.

Three members of my old veteran squad from 6th edition, Harker and two plasma gunners.

Plasmagun made from a Cadian Flamer and a Berzerker Plasma Pistol.

The old "let's use the lasgun buttstock as plasma vents" technique.

My "Imperial" Knight. Never got around fully painting him. Used him once or twice in 6th edition and during my first 8th edition game. He blew up and took half my CSM army with him.

Two of my Ratling Snipers.

I wanted to convert them, and with rat in the name and a traitor guard army... How could I NOT use skaven?

Two of my Beastmen Guardsmen.

The right one never saw a table. The left one is my current AM warlord.

I had bought some Nob pistols to use as cool bolt pistols/autopistols. Bad news : they don't work for that. Good news : they make awesome boltguns.

And finally my Kings of War Ogre Siege Breakers. They are an awesome unit, but mantic doesn't make them. So I took twelve Mantic Ogres, a couple meters of balsa, a meter-roll of green stuff and some Chaos Marauder flail heads I had lying around.

They are the vets of my Ogre pirate army, so some of them lack arms or legs. But instead of a hook, I just attached the flail to the stumps. My peg-legs kinda sucked, so I didn't make many of them.

If the frock coats seem familiar to some of you, there is a reason for that.

They were also pressed into duty as proxy Bullgryn recently.

I like the Ogre Siege Breakers.
The crown on the Imperial Knight is a cool and clever upgrade!

And more conversions. This time converting a scale model into a 40k tank. Specifically a 1/144 P1000 Ratte from Takom into a Baneblade. Yes, that is a 10-12mm kit that is large enough to serve as a 28mm baneblade. Gee, I wonder why it never left german drawing boards! I used some 3d printed components from some files off thingiverse. Cost me about 20€ to have them printed and shipped to me.

The rat in all its glory, in front of the box. Demolisher and Baneblade cannons are grey because I sanded them, applied surface primer and sanded them again in order to smooth them out.

Notice the crude doors? At first I had sponsons there, but they got in the way of the main turret. When I removed them I messed up the armor panel at this spot, so... Quick patchwork to hide my mess!

The handles are made from paper clips.

A size comparison with my old leman russ demolisher and one of the 1/144 Maus included with the rat. I can't wait for Warlord games to someday announce a 28mm P.1000 as an april joke and provide rules.

And a last size comparison.

For reference, barrel included, the model is about 11 inches long. Which is good, because I was worried about it ending up to long to place in a normal deployment zone.

Looks like you could use the Maus as a Cyclopes demo vehicle.

Yeah, it should be in the same size category and I toyed with that idea. Although if I end up fielding Cyclopes, I'm tending towards two full units of them as anti-deep strike screens.

Honestly, I'd rather have it around as a cute mini-me for the Hamster-Pattern Baneblade. The 1/100 T-60 from Zvezda for instance is about the same size as a 1/35 Goliath according to my math, so it should work just as well. And at under 4 euro a pop, very cheap too.

Hey, welcome to Dakka and thanks for sharing. I love converting myself. Think it's a big part of the game and looks like you're the same way. I particularly like the "plasma gun" conversion, and those pirate ogres make me want to shout ARRRR! and call for a boarding action! The shields you put together, is that just balsa wood?

I never forget the Dakka unit scale is binary: Units are either OP or Garbage.

Thanks! Converting is a lot of fun for me, be it basic kitbashing or more involved stuff.

Yeah, it's just 2 by 5 mm balsa wood broken to length and attached with wood glue. Cutting would have worked fine, but I like the cruder look it gives them. Mind you, those ogre minis used to have normal shields, which I shaved to almost oblivion, leaving only the straps and a flat surface to glue the shields to.

The idea of "breaking" the balsa wood for crudeness was genius! You really made that work by saving the old shield straps and such. Very nice!
