Trying to decide how I want to build up my current 1000 point list. I am running scions backed up by an execution force. I am not going to spam any one assassin and I want to stick with one of each. I have some options created adding units all the way to 2k pts. I really like playing with the idea that scions are all about precision application of overwhelming firepower and have them setup in fireteams to counter different adversaries. My current 1000 pt list is below, I'm tempted to drop the missile truck for a Valkyrie to reduce the number of drops put into reserve.

Some other Questions I have are, should I be mixing my heavy weapons in more with my regular squads? The few games Ive played it feels like they are more effective when all deployed together against specific targets. And is the upgrade path I'm taking viable, or will I be severely outgunned past 1k points unless I invest in more Tanks or Knights. Is the Valk a waste of points with its mediocre BS?

Current 1000 pt list: Commisar Lord is my Warlord, and is deployed in a truck with the squad of HSVGs.
The Plasma Command Squad deploys in the second truck with the other 5 man scion team and Tempestor Prime
The Melta CommandSquad is put in reserves with the other 5 man scion squad and a prime for deep striking on vehicles and monsters.
Assassins are held in reserve and deep strike.

From the FAQ
Pages 90 and 101 – Commissar Yarrick, Lord Commissar and Commissar, Summary Execution
Change to read:
‘Summary Execution: The first time an Astra Militarum unit fails a Morale test during the Morale phase whilst it is within 6″ of any friendly Commissars, one model of your choice in that unit is slain and the Morale test is re-rolled (do not include this slain model when re-rolling the Morale test).’

I highly recommend you stay away from commissars. This essentially means you are forced to kill a model and retake morale no matter what.

You need to drop a HSVG from the larger squad, it's 4 in a 10 man or 2 in a five.

I also wouldn't recommend running five man squads with no upgrades, if you cut the ten man down to a five man you should be able to add some special weapons in those too.

The Valkyrie has been doing work for me, with multiple rocket pods, heavy bolters and a multi laser, if you hover you're still hitting on 4' (3's with the pods) and it can hurt a lot of targets.

Ditch the commissar, they aren't worth the points you're paying for them especially after the recent nerf to commissars. If you want a buff to your leadership I'd recommend an Inquisitor cause all imperial units within 6" use his leadership of 9. Can also be made a psyker so you have some denial other than the culexus which is useful! A stock Inquisitor is the same as the Lord commissar I believe.

Just some thoughts, let me know if this helps.

Accept any challenge, No matter the odds
