So, this is my first 8th edition list. Haven't played since 6th. I've played about a dozen games using a friends Grey Knights/Tau armies, so I'm easing in. I made this list off fluff/fun/units I like. I'm running/painting Klan Deathskulls, so there's the only named character we get, the Mad Dok himself. I'll jump the Slugga/Choppa unit turn one, the rest of the boyz/stormboyz/walkers will be running across the field with the KFF protecting some and the lootas/burna bommer providing some fire support. The lootas were added to help with vehicles but if someone brings a Knight or something I'm sure I'll still struggle. Any thoughts are welcome, thanks!

Nice list! Very fluffy.

Rokkits on the kans would help with vehicles, but the kans are susceptible to leadership losses so 2 units of 3 might last longer.

The dread will likely get wrecked nearly every game by lascannons, smite, etc. It's a good unit but it costs almost as much as another unit of boyz. I have run 2 dreads for a while this edition and usually only 1 makes it to close combat.

I haven't tested the burna bomber, I am curious how it will work out.

It is not a bad list. If I were you I would:

Not bring the deff dread. They are good in CC with four klaws, but they are way too fragile.

Don't bring lootas. They simple evaporate when the enemy looks in their direction. And they really suck.

Put rokkits on the kans.

Get a vanilla warboss to go with the kans and help with morale.

Bring a weirdboy with warpath. Great spell.

Skorcha missiles on the burna bommer are not worth it.

Break the stormboyz into smaller squads, unless you plan on bringing zaggstrukk.

If your opponent brings a knight, you should just ignore it and go for objectives.

If you can find the points and have the models, you should definitely bring more boyz. Don't bother with 'eavy weapons or anything for the boss nob. What wins you games is bringing lots of bodies and lots of S4 attacks.

The above post is excellent advice and well worth taking.

Hello!

Thanks for the replies.

I'm trying to incorporate some of the ideas here, but I had thoughts/comments (that are probably ignorant and/or wrong, lol).

So, I'm definitely going to break the stormboyz up into 3 squads of 5 with a nob. This will let them threaten more vulnerable shooting units or go for objectives without having to worry about morale as much. Great call.

I can definitely work in a Weirdboy with Warpath. Another great call!

I plan on protecting the Deff Dread and the Killa Kanz with the KFF Mek. Also, I already own and have assembled the model... haha, so he's kind of a must take for me for now! I can totally see the merit in replacing him with another unit of boyz, or even cutting the big choppas/big shootas out of the units, but I want some toys to play with, I guess. I'm trying to strike a balance between not getting my head stomped into my ass every game but also not being "that guy"who brings 150 boyz.

Yeah, Lootas seem kind of meh with only a 6+ save but I wasn't sure what shooting I could bring to reliably deal with things like razorbacks/predators/etc. Light vehicles. I was hoping they'd focus on the walkers and 90 boys screaming towards them and leave the lootas alone, lol. I've read that tankbusters in a trukk aren't bad, but if they focus your rather fragile trukk early then your guys are foot slogging.

For Zaggstrukk how does bringing special characters in different factions work this edition? You can still bring them but they don't buff units of different factions? So Zaggstrukk being a Goff wouldn't help my Deathskull Storm Boyz, but I guess if you run them as their own detachment it works, you just couldn't use Weirdboy spells on them?

As for the Killa Kans and rokkits, I just realized that since Kans are manned by Grots they're BS4! So I'll definitely make that change. Good call!

I'm not in any way disparaging any of the suggestions, just voicing my thoughts and questions out loud. Thanks very much for all the feedback!

I made a second list with a lot of the changes incorporated, but ugh! haha. I reduced the Stormboyz from 20-15 and split them into 3 groups. I removed the Lootas and the Deff Dread and added a Morkanaut and a second Weirdboy with Warpath.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I looked at the index and it appears that Weirdboy spells don't check klan keywords, they only check for Ork keyword. Same way that Mad Dok Grotsnik can heal any Ork Infantry or Ork Biker, not just his klan.
