Recently purchased the box set with 5 Termies plus Chaos Lord/Sorcerer. Realised I have spare SM Termi legs and almost all of the other bits to finish off an extra terminator (just missing the back torso half, which I'll be buying), so making both a Lord and a Sorcerer.

Looking for inspiration on how to glam them up, make them stand out-the kit is decent, but I like Termies and want to make them a bit of a centerpiece. I've decided fluff-wise that the Termies will be an honour guard for the CL, all of whom were corrupted by the Sorc from their original chapter; this lets me internally justify bringing out some of my spare SM bits and concepts.

Setting one terminator up as the icon bearer for the squad, and marking him out by giving him the standard from a GK kit-Obviously planning on taking the detail off (somewhat reluctantly, as I like the standard but don't have a use for it other than terrain...) and was thinking of doing a GS sculpt of a daemonic face/claws coming out from the standard, as if the standard he bore when he was in the SM honour guard has been messed up by the warp and is now possessed.

Other than that, I'm still trying to come up with ideas for how to make the unit (Lord+Termies) seem like they were previously a captain+honour guard who have been twisted by chaos. I'm thinking torn capes all around, but not sure if so many capes will look good together. I've got a lot of GK power swords, so I was thinking of arming at least some of them with these swords (after removing GK details and adding some chaos) because I quite like the bitz; at the moment the CL is armed with a GK power halberd which will be a count-as power sword (or axe, I suppose); I'm using it because I like the look. Unfortunately don't have enough halberds to arm the whole unit, but I think letting the CL stand out a bit weapon-wise is not such a bad idea.

Any thoughts?

What god do they follow, if any? That'll narrow it down a lot, as, if they're Nurgle followers, some gross additions would work well like tentacles and bloating flesh bursting from the armour, or if they're Khorne then skull ornaments would be good, etc.

I think the Lord having the halberd only will work well to keep him looking a little more impressive than the unit. GK swords look sweet, so if you can find a way to chaos them up then they should work well to bling up the squad.
All of them having capes won't look bad at all, as long as you keep the Lord looking more impressive. Perhaps half capes or just less detailed, while the Lord has a big cloak with fur.

No god, which I'll admit is part of my problem-I'm going Chaos Undivided.

Although I suppose the Termie unit itself will likely be Slaanesh, in order to get that sweet DTTFE buff with the icon. Thoughts on what to add to make this allegiance more clear?

If there original Chapter is GK then choosing like runic armor markings on the armor would look cool, some sigils. Use some of the books instead of the trophy spike racks and make the books look like the necronomicon or have a demon hand coming out.

Could do the shields on the shoulders but make them spikey or super battle damaged like they were ripped through the warp

Hmmmm. The original chapter is not GK because, as far as I know, the official canon is that no GK has ever been corrupted-I'm just using GK bits because I have them and like the look, but that could work anyway if I scrape off/adjust any GK iconography.

Also have BT bits and am thinking of getting some DA termie bits-I quite like the robed/caped/blinged look for an honour guard, so maybe just mixing DA/BT/GK bits with Chaos Termie stuff is the way to go.

I meant for your army specifically not story wise. Like your own army's fluff.

Make each unit its own space marine chapter that has descended into chaos.
