EDIT: Nevermind this thread, I misunderstood the video

I’ve played over a dozen 8th ed games with several different people, some of them warhammer veterans who seem to know all the rules. We have always played shooting damage like this.

EX:

I wound you with two lascannon shots. You roll two saving throws. You save one. Then I roll D6 to figure damage on the unsaved wound.

On the miniwargaming.com tutorial, he wounds with a lascannon shot, rolls D6, gets a 4, and the defender has to roll 4 saves.

Wat do gentlemen?

It depends on the nature of the saving throw in question.

Units like Pox Walkers (there are many others but this is the one off the top of my head that I can think of) have saves that work every time the model loses a wound which happens from damage.

So your Version 1 is correct, but once you've rolled your d6 for damage (say, shooting at Pox Walkers), then the Pox Walkers will also get a save against each individual point of damage (so 4 Disgustingly Resilient saves, if you rolled a 4).

I hope I am clear.

I have not seen this tutorial, but what you described is totally wrong.

You do get to make independent Disgusting Resilience rolls per damage, though. Was that in play here?

You roll invulnerable and armour saves before rolling damage. Those negates the whole shoot.

The FNP equivalents like Disgusting Resilient or the one from the Venerable Dreadnought, Ulthwé/Iron Hands tactics, etc... are rolled after the damage. So if you take 5 damage you roll 5 Disgusting Resilient dice.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

There are more rules that roll vs damage than just Disgustingly Resilient. Off the top of my head:

The Warlord trait that gives you a 6+ against losing a wound.
The Unyielding Ancient rule for venerable dreadnoughts and Custodes Land Raiders.
The Mordian Iron Guard personal relic.
The Iron Hands chapter tactic.
The Iron Warriors "Iron Within, Iron Without" stratagem...

... and many more besides. Those all save against damage rather than wounds.

It might help to link the video in question with a specific time in it, but like others said, there's a difference between a saving throw and rolling to negate damage after losing a wound (basically FNP).

You roll to save wounds. Failing these saves, wounds are turned into damage. You then have abilities that save against damage. It would be better if they just started using the word damage, rather than using the word wound multiple times.

It's even explained in the video (from around 11:30), just saying.

Yep, it was a disgustingly resilient roll. Sorry guys. I’ve got the jitters, my first tournament is coming up and I’m being high strung
