A lot of experience and practice. Awaken realms is a premier miniatures painter.

For sure, but I was thinking more about what paints were used.

That's an airbrush job, right? If not, they did hours and hours of glazing to get the transitions.

No doubt an airbrush job. You don’t get those traditions with a brush.

If you are looking for colours this looks like a slightly reddish/purplish blue (in the shadows) that goes to a more neutral blue for the mid-tones and highlights towards white.

The main brown is rather dark but goes into a purplish brown for the shadow and is overall a bit desaturated (add a bit of grey) and goes towards a desaturated orange/white for highlights.

The claws look look like a darker brown (but without the grey for desaturation) that add pink flesh-tones for the highlights.

That's how it looks to me. Try putting a few colour mixes next to each other on a palette or a piece of paper and see if it looks like a colour scheme you would want to paint.

If you message awaken realms, they will probably give you the color palette. I always do if someone asks, I was just pointing out that even with the colors you are unlikely to achieve that look

I messaged Lucas, this was his reply if anyone's interested.

The carapace was done using (airbrushed) light silver colour, with vallejo blue ink later on to create the metallic, iridecent blue.
The flesh was few shades of brown (mournfang, balor (minimal amount) and screaming skull), followed by few brown wash layers (thin)

Masterful painter, check him out at http://awakenrealms.com/

Pretty simple when it comes down to it, but with masterful execution.

The con trast colours arepretty simple. It is a good balance between the teal and the 2 other colours (not they are broken a bit, particurarly the orange) The how they did it is the impressive part.
