Hi All,

Basically what is says in the subject line. I'm painting up some CSM with coloured metallic pauldrons (and possibly helmets), and want to add battle damage, but can't think of a way to make this look natural.

Coloured metallic effect is being achieved pretty simply-basecoat Leadbelcher, layer Ironbreaker, then run a brush loaded in Biel-Tan over it a couple of times (allowing it to dry in between) until the colour gets nicely saturated, but lets the metallic sheen show through. Definitely not the best way of getting metallic colours (relies on the surface being the right shape so that the colour pools nicely), but it gets the job done.

Normally I would paint damage using a lighter tone, to make it look "scuffed", with black/silver scratches in areas of deep damage, but I can't think of a way to use this same trick on a coloured metallic surface.

I'd appreciate any advice!

The surface of the armour would be painted the metallic colour, and the base metal still be silvery, no? Could you not use the regular chipping technique or will it notngenerate enough contrast?
