Hi,

I've got an opportunity for getting a dark vengeance box set brand new sealed about 1/3 rrp.

I have no interest in playing Dark Angels. I also have little interest in the crimson slaughter... But I do play chaos.

Aside from the hellbrute and cultists which I've seen on pictures are all the space marines and characters specific ones to those chapters and warbands.... ie do they have chapter markings moulded on the minis or are the characters chapter specific?

The Chaos models (lord, chosen, cultists) all have an icon somewhere on the model, but it's a small eight-pointed star which works for any Chaos faction really. They are all useable easily as any Mark or Legion or Warband.

The Dark Angels all have molded chapter markings, so if you're intending to use them as Chaos there will be alot of work involved but it's doable (and a popular option at the time of 6th/7th).

Cheers.

I'm trying to work out if it's worth it for the chaos alone... and if they can pass as a custom chaos undivided force and not the crimson slaughter.

I have a small space marine force which is still unpainted but is not chapter specific. I don't mind adding to it but I didn't want dark angels... I can probably sell what I don't want. The characters look very dark angels... I can't tell if the tactical marines have moulded DA icons on them or are just vanilla.

The Chaos models are totally generic - the GW studio uses them for almost all its Chaos armies. I've done mine as Death Guard and they look fine.

The tacticals have molded winged sword icons and tactical arrows (which are left-right for DA rather than the usual upwards for normal chapters), the terminators are covered with feathers and swords, again with molded shoulders. The characters are an even harder job to remove the da-specific stuff.

The Dark Angels tactical squad could be used in a Chaos Army by painting them black and using them as "Fallen". The Plasma Cannon would need to be replaced or converted to be a Chaos-friendly heavy weapon however.

To be totally honest, the DV set at 1/3 MSRP is worth it for the cultists alone according to current eBay prices. It is the only way to get any cultist models aside from the 5 sculpts GW sells on their own. If you don't want the DA models you can always sell them on eBay at about $15 per squad.

I used the axe guy and dual claws guy for exalted champions and the Mace one for dark apostle. They're awesome models so why not use them.

It's an absolute bargain, I got 2 of those sets

Buy a pack of Green Stuff and you can convert everything to you liking

I'm converting Chosen into Warp Talons (having spare parts from the Raptor kit)

Dark Angels can easily be converted into Fallen, just add some robes to them

Don’t mess the DA models up trying to convert. Just sell them on to a DA player (as DA don’t have a Chapter-specific tactical squad unlike the other chapters) and use the money to buy more Chaos models.
